Type of Family Structure
The family of concern is of the following structure:
A. In terms of Membership: Extended family (wherein the Singco household does not only
comprise of a husband, wife and immediate children; but also includes married siblings and
their families and/or grandparents.)
B. In terms of Descent: The family is of bilateral descent since members are related from both
their fathers and mothers, and grandfathers and grandmothers.
C. In terms of Residence: All of the members live in a patrilocal residence, since the extended
family members – Felisa Ruiz Singco and Marycor Tan Singco – live with their husband’s or
groom’s parents.
D. In terms of Authority: Authority resides in the oldest female (grandmother) in the family –
Lourdes Aldave Singco, 60 years old – and is, for the most part, responsible for the financial
expenses and budgeting of the family. All decisions that are to be made have to be addressed
primarily to her and that she is accountable for the household policies in their family. The
breadwinners – Edgar Singco and Charlito Singco – often commute or has a commitment to
their part-time occupations. Hence, the grandmother takes hold of all authority. Thus, the
Singcos are a matricentric family.

General Family Relationship/Dynamics

The family members are related by sanguinity. Members are dynamic in a way that each
interactions vary each day. And each member is believed to possess personalities different from
one another. This in turn can cause a clash in perceptions and beliefs, and would sometimes could
lead to a misunderstanding and worst, a feud among the family members. Each member has a
different pain and patience threshold since their coping mechanisms are diverse. Most of the time,
it is the younglings of the family who are involved in petty fights, yet there are certain instances
that even brothers and sisters who are of adolescent age become involved in such disputes. Stress
contributes most of the family’s misunderstandings, and thus drains energy and the will to work
from each member.
Decisions are to be made by the oldest members of the household, especially the grandmother
concerned.

below per day, will offer 7% (0.7 x 1000 = P700.00) of their weekly income; for those with
incomes ranging from P500 and above per day, will offer 1.5% (1.5 x 1000 = P1, 500.00) of
their weekly income.) Excess remaining incomes from each working member will be for
practical safe-keeping in case of contingency expenses and personal consumption.)

Family monthly grand total is P35, 200.00. (if desirable circumstances are met such as perfect
attendance for work and the 8-hr working policy is observed. Except for part-time jobs, which
are good for 3 hours.)
Which would be allocated towards the following sectors:

Housing
a. Adequacy of living space
The house is a little cramped for a family of thirteen. However, members are still able to
continue in with their activities of daily living without being significantly affected by the living
space. When it comes to their bedrooms, all of the family members share beds with one another
(except for Estanislao Singco.) Though their sleeping quarters are separated.
 For Lourdes Singco and Katherine Lie Singco, they share one bed.
 For Edgar Singco’s family, he and his wife share one bed then three of their children
share an up and down bed with two of the boys on the down portion and the eldest
daughter on the upper portion (with railing.)
 For Charlito Singco’s family, they all share one bed that is adjacent to a corner which
prevents risk of falling in relation to inadequate bedside railing.

b. Sleeping arrangement
All of the family members seem to be comfortable in their arrangements and can sleep
soundly with occasional sleeping interruptions. The sleeping quarters are conducive since they
do alleviate optimal air exchange (which would lead to optimal respiration) and that the room
temperature does not permit hypothermia for the family members.

c. Presence of breeding or resting sites of vectors of diseases

There are unused car tires in a distal location of the home of the Singco household. So,
mosquitoes are minimally present. Yet, there are no presence of roaches, flies and rodents.

d. Presence of accident hazards

None.

e. Food storage and cooking facilities

All food facilities are kept fresh and clean in a refrigerator. As for the cooking facilities,
the family prepares food through the usage of a --- that utilizes wood as a source of fuel.

f. Water supply
The source of the water supply is either from the local water distributor, or rainwater.
However, when it comes to potable drinking water, the family uses a mineral water dispenser.
The family incorporates a water storage policy through the refilling of large containers and
drums that would be used for cleaning, washing of laundry, bathing and any other uses.

g. Toilet facility
The toilet facility is of the flush type. It is owned by the household and is kept hygienic.
The toilet facility of the family is located in the back portion of their home, hidden in plain
view. And is used for personal necessities such as defecation and urination.

h. Garbage/refuse disposal
Garbage/refuse disposal is organized and situated only in one direction.

i. Drainage system
The type of drainage system the family employs is the closed type; it runs underground.

Kind of neighborhood
