Life and Works of Rizal

Coincidence
Today I learned about how the number three is related to Rizal in so many ways that it’s
unreal. I thought how it might just be a coincidence as there are many things we can relate to
anything by focusing on it and making it more specific and negating the fact that it was just given
more focus as there are many things that can also be related to it. Yet things can also be random
as we do not know what will hapened next or how things are connected yet here they are. That is
why we must make the most of it as we are uncertain of the future. We must live as if it was our
last day on earth. For life is short, we all know that, and we – well, most of us – want to live life
to the utmost fullest, in turn getting everything we can out of life. After all, it is a wonderful,
beautiful gift: Life. But we didn’t ask for it. As a mtter of fact, it takes some people a lifetime to
figure what it means to be alive. Which brings the beauty in life, knowing nothing of what will
happen tomorrow and trying to figure out what it means as it piques out the curiosity among us.
For the better or worse everything happens in our livs for a reason and everything else is related
in one way or another.

Life
Today we were given videos to watch about the life of Rizal. When I watched the videos
it felt like there was more to it in Rizal’s life not just being the hero we knew. He lived as if he
was a normal person as he fell in love, travelled and became a tourist, and had a low grade in one
of his subjects. I learned that in all of those praise he received he still lived his life as a human
being with the ups and downs and dreams he had not only for himself but for his country. I can
apply this in everyday life as I get to empathize and understand the people around me. That they
are also human beings who experience pain, sorrow and grief. It makes me act better towards them
as when I place myself in their place I feel what they feel and if they need help I am ready to do
so. It shows the compassion of a human being towards another which can help make the world a
better place if we learn to understand one another.

Unity
Today I learned that nationalism is how things would be better if we all helped each other
for our country. Not only one benefits from us having unity and working together but all of us who
have worked hard for it. As we strive for the same goal we must be reminded that we are all
Filipinos fighting for what’s just and ours no matter what social class or provinces we were born
on. National spirit is a universal endowment; what differs is the degree of its demonstration.
Everyone claims to possess this virtue, yet few truly serve its cause. Just like the majority of
political parties in the country are oriented to representing a region, certain community, or a section
of the people. Those, which claim to be national in character, have been hijacked by the parochial
electoral considerations of majority and so on. And after the election all those promises that they
have said are all forgotten which breaks the unity that ties us for a better future as they are blinded
by power and wealth in the government. As for the people who voted for the corrupt politicians,
those who were recently jailed and were freed, and yet hope for a better future has an ironic sense
of patriotism. We must learn from the past and be wise on which leader are we going to choose
yet our country does not lie on their hands alone but on us, the people of our country who must do
their best to love and fight for their country.
