DHAH means attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a medical disorder. The development
and activity of the brain of people with ADHD has some differences that affect attention, the
ability to sit still and self-control. ADHD can affect a child at school, at home and with friends.
What are the symptoms of DHAH?

At some point, all children have trouble paying attention, listening and following instructions,
sitting still or waiting for their turn. But in children with ADHD, the difficulties are greater and
occur more often.

Children with ADHD may have symptoms of one, two or three of the following categories:

* Lack of attention. Children with lack of attention (easily distracted) have difficulty
focusing their attention, concentrating and staying focused on a task. They may not
listen to the instructions well; they miss important details and do not finish what they
started. They may dream awake or waste time. They may seem distracted or forgetful
and do not remember where they left their things.

* Hyperactivity. Hyperactive children are restless, moving and easily bored. They may
have difficulty sitting still or staying quiet when necessary. They may do things in a hurry
and make careless mistakes. They may climb, jump or play violently when they
shouldn't. Unintentionally, they may act in ways that annoy others.

* Impulsive. Impulsive children act too fast before thinking. They often interrupt, may
push or grab others and have difficulty waiting. They may do things without asking
permission, take things that do not belong to them or act riskily. They may have
emotional reactions that seem too intense for the situation.

Sometimes parents and teachers notice symptoms of DHAH when the child is very young. But it
is normal for young children to be distracted, restless, impatient or impulsive; these
characteristics do not always indicate that a child has DHAH

Attention, activity and self-control develop gradually as children grow. Children learn these
skills with the help of parents and teachers. But some children do not improve much in the
aspects of paying attention, calming, listening or waiting. When these characteristics continue
and begin to cause problems at school, home or with friends, it may be DHAH.
What are the causes of ADHD?

It is not clear what causes the differences in ADHD in the brain. There is clear evidence that
ADHD is almost always hereditary. Many children with ADHD have a parent or relative with
ADHD.

ADHD is not because the child spends too much time in front of a screen, poor parenting or
excessive sugar intake.

ADHD can improve when children receive treatment, eat healthy foods, exercise, get enough
sleep and have supportive parents and know how to respond to ADHD.

How is ADHD treated?

Treatment for ADHD usually includes the following:

Medicines. This activates the brain's ability to pay attention, calm down and use more self-
control.

Behavioral therapy Therapists can help children develop the social, emotional and planning
skills they do not yet have due to ADHD.

Training for parents. Through training, parents learn better ways to respond to behavioral
difficulties that are part of ADHD.

School support. Teachers can help children with ADHD to do well and enjoy school more.
Proper treatment helps improve ADHD. Parents and teachers can teach younger children to
better control their attention, behavior and emotions. As they grow up, children should learn to
improve their attention and self-control.

When ADHD is not treated, children find it difficult to get ahead. This can lead to low self-
esteem, depression, oppositional behavior, school failure, risk behaviors or family conflicts.
