Lesson Plan (Grades 10-12)

1. Standards- For the Artifact #2 I will be teaching a physical education class. The

students will first warmup for class, then we will talk about the power point, after the

power point there will be a team building activity for students to get to know each

other.

- The Blooms verb that will be demonstrated is Comprehension, the objective of the

power point is to get a look into how the 3 athletes changed the sport for the better

which ended up breaking cultural barriers that were there before these athletes came

around. How I want the students to show their comprehension for this material is to

work with another student for the activity that they have never talked to before that

may be different from themselves.

- The Manning goal demonstrated for this lesson plan will be 4. Promote positive

gender, racial, cultural, class and individual identities. From the power point I want

students to take away that just because someone is a different race or culture than you

don’t mean they should be segregated from others. Then after the power point I
would like students to interreact with each other regardless of any cultural bias they

may have to show them the positive things that can come from working with new

people.

- Learning styles explained for class. Visual learning style will be used by having a

power point with pictures and videos relaying information on the athletes. Auditory

learning style will be used by me using my words to relay the information as well as a

group discussion and student interaction. Kinesthetic learning style will be used with

a P.E. activity where students will interreact and must physically perform to achieve a

goal.

2. Materials

- Projector for power point

- USB drive to keep document on

- Students will need gym cloths attire appropriate for school dress code

- Students will need running shoes

- Gymnasium

- Soccer ball

- Indoor soccer goals (smaller in size)

3. Do first- Students will perform the daily warmup exercises together as a class (this

helps form comradery and accountability)

Warmup:
2 rounds @ moderate effort

25ft jog

10 pushups

25ft high knees

10 jumping air squats

25ft inch worms

10 buprees

25ft side shuffle/ side

• 10 mins to perform before moving on

After the class is warmup, I will start getting their minds thinking about sports and

how there use to be a segregation by race. During this warmup discussion I will be

starting the power point. Students will be able to sit or stand during the power point

because this will be taking place in the gym.

(20 minutes)

-Mini lesson: The Lesson will be demonstrated by the power point I have made for

this class. We will look at 3 athletes that changed the direction of sports for all

cultures. I believe that in going this student and understand where this country started

and now is currently, keeping an open mind for all cultures is the main objective I

would like these students to understand while doing this course. Throughout this mini

lesson there will be visual and auditory learning taking place.

(25 minutes)
- Guided practice- After the power point students will be able to ask questions or voice

opinions about the material talked about. Doing so this will give me the teacher some

time to identify who has been paying attention and those who may need clarification.

(5-10 Minutes)

- Independent practice: This is where students will be able to interact with each other

and learn something new about their classmates. Students will talk amongst each

other to take away something they have never known before from their background.

Students will be asked to then work as a team to play an indoor soccer game.

Activity: Students will be asked to seek out 4-5 other students and form a team to

play indoor soccer. I will challenge students to then learn their teammates names and

pick out 1-2 pieces of interesting information about them. After the team has learned

about their teammates, they will perform a 20-minute game of indoor soccer.

Depending on class size there may be multiple games going on at once. After the

game the homework assignment will be given for students to bring back at the next

class period where they will be given a grade.

(30 Minutes)

- Exit Slip- Students will be given a homework assignment to bring back at the next

class period. There will also be another discussion about the students intersections

throughout the class period.

Reflection: I believe that this is a fun way for students to interact. It brings a teaching

point for the student that accommodates all learning styles. I believe that for a P.E.

class this is a great opportunity for students to have fun while learning, this is also a

subtle way for students to form a new opinion about different people from unique

backgrounds they may have never interreacted with before. I believe that any grade
level could benefit from this activity because we could always learn something new

from people we don’t know.

Strengths

- Keeps students engaged

- Has educational aspect that most P.E. classes don’t have

- Keeps kids active

- Encourages social interaction

- Has key learning elements

- Is on track with a 90 minute class

Weaknesses

- Formal classroom may be more beneficial

- Students may not feel challenged enough

- Students may not enjoy the activity

- Students may feel uncomfortable meeting new people
