Q.1. The stopping potential in an experiment on photoelectric effect is 1. 5 V. what is the
maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectron emitted?

Q.2. When light travels from a rarer to a denser medium, the speed decreases. Does
this decrease in speed imply a decrease in the energy carried by the light wave? justify
your answer.

eV and Ni = 5.15 eV. Which of these metals will not cause photoelectric emission for
radiation of wavelength 3300 Å from a laser source placed 1 m away from these metals?
What happens if the laser source is brought nearer and placed 50 cm away?

Q.24. (a) State Bohr’s postulate to define stable orbits in hydrogen atom. How does de
Broglie’s hypothesis explain the stability of these orbits?
(b) A hydrogen atom initially in the ground state absorbs a photon which excites it to
the n = 4 level. Estimate the frequency of the photon.

Q.25. Using Bohr’s postulates, derive the expression for the frequency of radiation
emitted when electron in hydrogen atom undergoes transition from higher energy state

When electron in hydrogen atom jumps from energy state 𝒏𝟏 = 4 to 𝒏𝟏 = 3, 2, 1, identify
the spectral series to which the emission lines belong.
