1. Introduction to the topic
Food additives serve a very useful purpose: They ensure that your
food lasts longer and conserves its flavor, texture and color. Some
additives even help maintain the original nutritional value of the food so
that it doesn’t dissipate as the food gets older. As many benefits as food
additives have, however, they also have a good number of disadvantages.
2. Advantages
There are several obvious benefits, such as improve or maintain the
food’s nutritive value. Vitamins A, C, D, E, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin,
pyridoxine, folic acid, calcium carbonate, zinc oxide and iron are often
added to foods such as flour, bread, biscuits, breakfast cereals, pasta,
margarine, milk, iodized salt and gelatin desserts. Instead of vitamin C,
you may see ascorbic acid listed. Alpha-tocopherol is another name for
vitamin E, and beta carotene is a source of vitamin A.
Another positive aspect is improve the appearance of foods and increase
the availability of a variety of foods throughout the year.
3. Disadvantages
The impact has not all been positive, some food additives can
potentially cause harmful side effects. For example, butylated
hydroxyanisole, comonly known as BHA, is a preservative used in foods
including potato chips, crackers, beer, baked goods and cereal. It has been
classified by the U.S Departement of Health and Human Services as a
preservative “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen” Sulfites,
which are added to baked goods, wine, condiments and snack foods, could
cause hives, nausea, diarrhea and shortness of breath in some people.
The most common criticism is other additives are known to increase the
risk of developing certain diseases such as certain types of cancer but the
benefit (say as a preservative) has been determined by outway the risk.
Another negative effects is a number of additives can cause allergic
reactions. The two most widely artificial coloring Red 40 and Yellow are
also the most likely additives to cause allergy-like reactions and
hypersensitivity. They can also cause hyperactivity in some children.
A final drawback is some food additives can potentially cause harmful
effects.
4. Summary and own opinion
To sum up the advantages there are many benefits of adding
additives to the food we eat. It can reduce food spoilage, by keeping the
food fresh , reducing food loss. It also prevents the growth of bacteria and
fungi that cause food poisoning. Food additives can help maintain and
improve the nutritional value of food that is sometimes lost during cooking
and increase food varieties and convenience as well as improve sensory
properties of food. And the disadvantages As many benefits as food
additives have, however, they also have a good number of disadvantages.
Food additives sometimes destroy vitamins in food, replace real
ingredients, and may be used to make bad quality food look good. Many
fruit drinks make use of food colorings, as do some precooked meats, soy
sauce and even beer.
In conclusion, We believe the food additives are not beneficial to
our body and the chips are present in additives there is an unfavorable
content to consume.

1. Question : What do you find interesting about food additives?


Answer : Food additives are added and mixed at the time of
processing food to improve the appearance of food,
improve taste, enrich the nutritional content, keep the food
so as not to quickly rot, and so forth.
2. Question : How might using food additives affect your health?
Answer : The content in the food additives is very unlikely for our
body, so it can make our body unhealthy if we consume it
too much.
3. Question : Do you think it's safe to consume food with food additives
routinely?
Answer : No, its not safe to consume food with too much food
additives because it can damage our body and make us
sick.
4. Question : Have you ever suffered health problems due to food
aditives used ?
Answer : Yes, I have. I have been expose to sore throat disease
because of eating too much instant noodle that contain
food additives in it.
5. Question : Why do most people keep using food additives ?
Answer : People keep using it to make the food presented more
attractive, have a good taste, and make the food last
longer.
4. Question : How would our food be different without food additives?
Answer : Our food will be healthier than before.
