I. Objectives
A. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the periodic table of
elements as an organizing tool to determine the chemical properties of
elements.
B. Performance Standard
The learners should be able to trace the development of the periodic
table from observations based on similarities in properties of elements

a. Identify the scientists responsible for the development of the
periodic table.
b. State the contribution the said scientists to the history of the
development of the periodic table.

A. Before the lesson


Elicit (3 minutes)
The teacher will show 5 pictures of famous scientists. Colored big pictures of scientists
Questions will be raised to the learners.
Key Questions:
 What are the names of the scientists shown in
the pictures?
 In what field of science are they?
Engage (20minutes)
Students will be told to present their pre-assigned Product labels
product labels. They will work in groups to identify the
elements found in the labels. They will then name at
least ten elements.
Activity 3: What’s in the Labels?
Key Questions:
 How many elements have you identified?
 What are the symbols of these elements?
Explore (20 minutes)
Teacher will present to the class an article on the Article on the Development of the
History of the development of the periodic table. Periodic Table

Guide Questions:
1. Who are the scientists mentioned in the article?
2. What did each contribute to the development of
the periodic table?
3. Write you answer in a tabular form Manila Paper

Explain (5 minutes)
The students will report their outputs to the class.
After the report, the teacher will reinforce on important
concepts missed by the students.
Elaborate (7 minutes)
Video Clip
The teacher will show a short video clip on the
development of the periodic table emphasizing only on
Dobereiner, Newlands and Mendeleev.
Evaluate (5 minutes)
Choose two scientists from the video clip. Fill in the
Venn Diagram below.

Extend (next day)


Name other scientists who have also helped in the
