Anthology is a collection of selected literary pieces chosen by the compiler.

In this work, these literary works I chose are base from my own criteria. I make
these criteria to help me sort what works I should choose for this anthology. I
have only five criteria. Two for prose and three for poetry and I will explain
each.

First what is prose? Prose consists of those written within the common
flow of conversation in sentences and paragraphs. Now for prose I have;
emotions and meaningful. First is the emotions. We know that there are many
types of emotions that we can experience and feel. But psychologist Paul
Eckman identified the six basic emotions namely, happiness, sadness, fear,
disgust, anger and surprise. While choosing and reading the literary works I
chose to be in this anthology, I felt all that basic emotions. At some time, I
felt happy because of the character then it shifts to sadness because of what
may could happen to them. It just like a rollercoaster of emotions. And I like
to experience that when I’m reading a story. My best pick for this is the story
“Ang Singsing Nang Dalagang Marmol”

Next is the meaningful. Meaningful stories are meant to inspire. They

are meant to stimulate your thinking and give you, a little or some, insight
and perspective on life. Also, we can see if the works are meaningful if there
are tension building and if the events in the story follow the cause and effect
chain. This will help us feeling random and thus, meaningless. My best pick
for this is the story “Bowaon and Totoon”
Now let’s move to poetry. Poetry refers to those expressions in verse, with the
measure and rhyme, line and stanza and has a more melodious tone. For
poetry I have; feelings, entertainment and also meaningful. First is feelings.
Emotions and feelings are different. Feelings is a mental associations and
other reactions to an emotion that are personal, acquired through experience
while motion is a physical response to change that is almost hard-wired and
universal. My best pick for this is “No One Hears My Cry”

Second is entertainment. It is a form of activity that holds the attention

and interest of an audience, or gives pleasure and delight. As a reader, we all
want to read a story that is entertaining because if it, we can lose interest and
might not continue to finish what we started. My best pick for this is the
“Ibalon” an epic from Bicol.

Last is meaningful. Meaningful stories are meant to inspire. They are

meant to stimulate your thinking and give you, a little or some, insight and
perspective on life and we can relate to familiar situations. A good story is
meaningful if the plot is maintaining its tension and pacing and following the
cause and chain effect which can help us from feeling random and thus,
meaningless. My best pick for this is the “Dahil Sa Pag-ibig”.
