TEACHING GUIDE

TOPIC / LESSON NAME Cell Structure and Functions

CONTENT STANDARDS The learners demonstrate an understanding of cell

structures and its functions.
CULMINATING PERFORMANCE Construct a 3D model of a plant/animal/ bacterial cell
STANDARDS using recyclable materials/edible foods.

PERFORMANCE TASK The learners will construct a 3D model of a plant/animal/

bacterial cell using recyclable materials/edible foods.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES The learners shall be able to describe the structure and
function of major and subcellular organelles.
SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES Through video presentation and discussion, the learners
shall be able to:
1. Describe the structure and functions of the Cell;
2. Differentiate the parts of the Eukaryotic Cell and
Prokaryotic Cell.
3. Recognize the vital role of the cell in every living
organism.
TIME ALLOTMENT 180 minutes

MATERIALS NEEDED Television and Laptop

Introduction (Wordbank)
(10 minutes) Introduce a word from parts of the cell and tell the learners
to be familiarize with it. Without looking for notes, just with
their prior knowledge, let them guess what is the meaning
or role of each word in the cell.

Motivation Let the learners watch a video presentation about the

introduction to cells. Video entitled; “Biology Cell Structure”
(15 minutes)

Instruction Discussion through powerpoint presentation.

(1hr and 30 minutes) 1. Introduce again the two types of Cell.
2. Discuss the different structures of a Cell. (Prokaryotic and
Eukaryotic)
3. State the functions of cell structures.

Practice Flashing a picture of different parts of a cell, let the learners

distinguish what part it is, and its function in the cell.
(25 minutes)

Enrichment Back to words that have been introduced earlier, ask again
the learners about the words and see if they now
(20 minutes)
understand the different structures of a cell.

Evaluation Illustration
(30 minutes) The learners will illustrate the different cell parts. (They will
decide if what type of cell they will draw.) and state its
function and its importance.
