Writing

Objectives:

- to provide pupils with practice in writing comprehension


- to encourage them to use new vocabulary
- to develop pupils’ writing skills through various creative activities
- to form pupils’ ability of using their imagination while discussing
different situations
- to broaden pupils’ knowledge about ways of development of our
personality.

Expected results:

By the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to write the range of
programme: learn some main facts that affects our personality, can write an
informal letter with the help of information from the text.

Equipment:

- a textbook by O. Karpyuk

- a board

- handouts

Procedure

Pre – writing activities

Let’s start our work with writing.

1. The first task is


- look through the text , find unknown words for you and write them
down into your copy – books. You have got only 2 minutes.
- name your words and ask somebody to find this word in the text , read
the sentence with this unknown word and try to understand the meaning of
this word out of the context.
2. Now students, please, tell me:
- Who is the oldest child in the family?
- Who is the middle child in the family?
- Who is the youngest child in the family?
- Who is the only child in the family?

So we have got 4 groups now and let’s continue our work.

3. Each group has got its own task:


- “The oldest child” group is going to find nouns in our text.
- “The middle child” group is going to find verbs in our text.
- “The youngest child” group is going to find adjectives in our text.
You have got only 3 minutes and then you’ll make your own sentences
with these words.

While – writing activities

4. The students will be asked to complete the Character Sketch


below with the information from the text.
5. A representative of each group will present their work in the
class.
6. Writing Proper.
The next task is to write a character sketch of a person that
influences you a lot.
The teacher has to remind them to:
- list down important character traits they’ve notice in that person,
- choose one which they want to emphasize,
- recall or collect enough details and decide what overall impression
that their subject has made on them.
Post – writing activities
7. Running Dictation
Now choose a secretary in your group. One by one come to the
blackboard, read one of the sentences in the text, remember it, come back
to your group and dictate it to your secretary.
8. How do you write an Informal letter?
To sum up our work you have to write an informal letter to your pen
– friend and to discuss what or who effects our personality. Don’t forget
about the structure of informal letters and about main phrases you need.
