Discussion

The interview done by us with Mr Haziq, an engineer for Jaewon Frontier(M) SDN.
BHD has enlightened us about the matter that arises in an engineer or engineering
technologist workplace.

He told us about the difference between engineering technology and engineer scope of
work such as an engineering technologist is a specialist devoted to the implementation of
existing technology within a field of engineering. In general, the work of engineering
technologists focuses on the applied and practical application of engineering principles,
whereas the work of engineers emphasizes the theoretical aspects of mathematical, scientific
and engineering principles.

Next, we learnt about the ethics and responsibilities that an engineer or engineering
technologist must have such as Accuracy & Rigour and Honesty & Integrity. This are the
basic ethics that an engineer or engineering technologist should have. He also stated the
definition of intellectual properties. Intellectual properties refer to creations of the mind, such
as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in
commerce.

After that, He answered our question about the relation of industrial revolution 4.0
with his work. He mentioned that Fourth Industrial Revolution urges us to think creatively
about the manufacturing process, value chain, distribution and customer service processes. In
the meanwhile, the future of education emphasizes the immense need to look beyond these
areas and strategically utilize the “Internet of Things” to prepare the coming workforce for
the challenges ahead. Certain benefit that we can obtained is the optimization of work,
customization in the manufacturer – consumer relationship and research will be pushed
towards in various field such as internet security and so on.

He also answered question regarding to the significant challenge of industrial

revolution 4.0 towards engineering fields. He stated that online security integration will give
room to security breaches and data leaks. Therefore, research in security is crucial. Capital
transformation will require a huge investment in a new technology that doesn’t sound cheap.
Thus, the risks must be calculated and taken seriously. Employment, while it still early to
speculate on employment conditions with the adoption of Industry 4.0 globally, it is safe to
say that workers will need to acquire different or an all-new set of skills. Different forms of
education must be introduced, but it still doesn’t solve the problem for the elder portion of
workers. Lastly is privacy, in such an interconnected industry, producers need to collect and
analyse data. To the customer, this might look like a threat to their privacy. Bridging the gap
between the consumer and the producer will be a huge challenge for both parties.

Conclusion

Based on the interview, we can know more about the differences between engineer
and engineer technologist in job scope. We also can determine the ethical value that should
be implemented in the engineering society. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 also give an impact
towards engineering society which it reducing the gap between manufacturer and consumer
by creating an effective ways of communication. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 also incites
some new challenges and conflict. Thus, the new engineer should came out with creative and
progressive solution in order to solve the problem
