Expected Sewage Generation from the Education Institute is about: 486 KLD
Considering future requirements, we designed the STP capacity as 950 KLD. The
designed sewage treatment plant capacity is more adequate for treatment.
pH 6.5 – 7.5
The treated Sewage quality will be meeting the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board
(TNPCB) stipulated the following parameters for pollutants:
pH : 5.5 - 9.0
The 25% of Treated sewage quantity is re-used for Toilet Flushing thru Pr Pumping
System and balance quantity of 75% is re-used for Gardening.
The planned sewage treatment scheme is designed to treat the wastewater from
academic block, hostel, kitchen, pantry & toilet, after treatment the treated water will
be reused for Gardening & Toilet Flushing. The STP designed to ensure that treated
sewage parameters are well below /within permissible limits.
A brief description of the process involved in treating the sewage is given below:
The STP shall be based on the aerobic system. The sewage is collected through piping
network involving inspection chambers and manholes, in the Collection tank through
Bar screen / grit chamber.
The Collection tank designed for adequate hydraulic retention volume to take care of
peak flows. Coarse Bubble Aeration Grid (MBBR) provided in Aeration Tank, to
prevent the settling of solids. In Aeration tank, biomass carrier media is provided for
maintaining the required volume of microbes. The microbes (MLSS > 8000) are
attached on the media surface and move along with water. The Moving/Fluidised
state is maintained by diffused aeration. The excess biomass growth on media is
sloughed and get separated in the following Clari Settler tank.
The Aeration tank shall has the adequate liquid holding volume and provided with
air grid to maintain the required Dissolved Oxygen levels for the aerobic microbial
growth, which is needed for biodegradation of the pollutants. The Clari Settling tank
has the larger surface area for the effective solid - liquid separation. The overflow
from the settling tank shall be collected in Clarified Water Storage/Filter Feed Tank
for disinfection and Filtration.
The Bio Sludge collected in the bottom of the settling tank is transferred through
sludge pump to the Sludge Drying Beds to dewater the Sludge. The Drying Beds are
loaded cyclically, and sundried sludge is removed regularly and disposed as manure
/ soil conditioner for Landscape & Garden suitably.
The treated sewage water is disinfected using UV system then filtered through
Pressure Sand Filter and Activated Carbon Filter for removal of suspended impurities
and traces of organics. The Filtered water is stored and reused suitably for Flushing
and Gardening requirements suitably.
