*RISE SECTOR PRODUCTION IN COLOMBIA (2010-2017)

It is public knowledge that, in 2018, the area planted with rice in Colombia was 595,374
hectares and generated a production of 2,486,723 tons of green paddy, by virtue of
which, for the second consecutive year, the country was self-sufficient in terms of rice
cooker But, in addition, inventories showed a decrease of 4.05% compared to those
registered at the end of 2017.

*COLOMBIA’ RISE IMPORTATION

According to DANE figures, the rice sector is the third most important product in
Colombian agriculture. Additionally, processed rice plays an important role in the diet
and in the family basket of Colombian households, and in particular, in the
consumption basket of the poorest households. To understand the rice sector, the main
links that make up the chain of the sector must be taken into account. In its order, the
rice chain is composed of: i) cultivation and production of green paddy rice, ii)
processing and milling of dry paddy rice and the production of white rice and other
derivatives, and iii) wholesale and retail marketing of rice white and its derivatives

EXPORTATION

Phytosanitary requirements for the export of rice to Ecuador were approved in

Colombia, reports HSB News, citing the Colombian Minister of Agriculture.
The Minister said that the export agreement would benefit some 20,000 rice producers
and some 500,000 people employed in the rice sector.
He also noted that the agreement would help strengthen national agriculture, adding
that the government is exploring export opportunities to Mexico, Chile, Peru and Cuba

* Concentrates 9.4% of the national cultivated area.

* Casanare has 27.6% of the cultivated area, Tolima 18.2% and Goal 13%.

* The chain generates 2.7% of direct jobs in the field and 5.1% of indirect jobs.

* In the last 20 years, national production has increased from 383,000 tons to 570,000
tons with an increase of 48%.

* The price of rice is today at the lowest price since 2000.

* EMPLOYMENT GENERATION

According to the figures of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, rice
production can be in the order of three million tons per year and generates about
500,000 jobs
