Axiology
The sixth session of philosophy of science will discuss axiology. Sources are taken from
videos from youtube that has been assigned through SPOT. From the two videos I have already
outlined some important information about axiology. This summary, will cover the definition and
model of axiology presented by 60second Philosophy and Mitch Axelrod.
Axiology as mentioned in the video, is the philosophical study of value. It is an effort to
define what is good in both action and objects. Defining what is good from both action and objects
are actually the nature of philosophy. Thus, axiology is required to be and have applied in our life.
Regarding those requirements, axiology applies ethics as originated from human actions and
aesthetics as created by physical traits of an object. Take an example, when we see a panorama,
we could put values of beauty towards it. This application is acknowledged as the study towards
common pursuit that being value.
Next, model of axiology presented by Mitch Axelrod. He presents model ABC-123 of
axiology. This model stands for a system to apply axiology or perhaps to get deeper understanding
towards axiology itself. Unfortunately, some parts of the video are missing. But, I expect that there
will not be a misunderstanding in making this summary. Start from A that stands for attention
where we put our attention to. B stands for balance, do we tend to see some rules for instance as
positive or negative or it can be both. This would probably happen, since people are unique then
it results various value which comes to those three categorization on their perceptions towards
rules. C is for Clarity which requires us to have better insight. This insight could be very useful in
making choices and even seeing something as a whole.
The last is the 123 that will conclude this summary. It stands for one mind, two worlds, and
three dimension. This axiological model makes us to recognize our own mind that is provided with
given power to conduct everything. Powerful mind that needs to be connected with soul. This
connection could help us answer the question of what am I as a being that makes us a being. Then,
to measure all values three dimension is established. This will attempt us to provide measureable
value to pinpoint more important matters. In relation to those 123, it is expected that our scientific
thoughts, stuff, etc. will produce a valuable knowledge.
