Performance requirement

Sulfated Ash:
weight % of ashes – MUST be ≤ 1.5% for ECF-2 (API CI-4) and ≤ 1% for
ECF-3 (API CJ-4)
If it is too high, diesel particle filters can occur, as well as, the
development of soot in piston areas.
If it is low, DPF operating condition is optimized and warranty low
emissions. It means also low deposits, low oil consumption, best output
of the machine.

TBN = Total Basic Number:


Ability of the oil to balance acids which are generated during the
combustion from sulphur in the fuel – ECF2 15W-40 TBN is 11.3
If it is too high, varnish is generated in bore and piston
If it is too low, neutralization of all acids will not occur and oil will
become corrosive and very thick

Zinc %:
Anti-wear capability – ECF2 15W-40 Zinc % is 0.146
If it is too high, a very high level of ash is created with the potential for
deposit formation.
If it is too low, anti-wear performance is negatively impacted.
Viscosity Index:
Ability to keep viscosity at low or high temperature –
ECF2 15W-40 VI is 135
The higher the VI is, the larger temperature range we could recommend
The below data from DANA website for Diesel oil 15W40

TBN =8.8 which not Accepted


And the specs (edition 2015) which was received not mention TBN.
