Bill Of Material (BOM) Creation

An equipment can have multiple parts, which can be procured separately, and
these parts can also be used in another equipment. These parts are created as
materials in the system and thus they can be individually planned.
For example a Desktop computer has a number of components like CPU,
monitor, mouse and keyboard. The main equipment is the Desktop, while CPU
is the main part which has monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Desktop is created as equipment, while CPU, Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse are
created as materials. We can change or repair the CPU, Monitor, Keyboard or
Mouse as and when needed.
The materials namely CPU, Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse can be procured and
planned individually.

We will create the equipment and materials separately, and then connect the
materials to the equipment:
1 - Create Materials
Using the transaction code MM01 (create material) we will create the three
materials. Selecting the basic, purchasing, plant and accounting views.

Material Code for example = CPU

Material Views

Transaction = MM01

Materials = CPU, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse

2 - Create Equipment
Use transaction IE01 to create the equipment
Desktop2

3 - Create BOM
Use transaction CS01 to create the Material BOM, (BOM creation normally falls
in PP)

Press Enter
Enter all the components and the required quantities and then save the BOM.

Item Category = 1 (PM)

Components

Quantity = 1

Save

Now this needs to be assigned to an equipment, for which we will use the
equipment = Desktop2
Now need to create a EQP BOM = IB01

In Material tab

Item Category = I (PM

Structure element)

Material Quantity

Press Enter,
So Desktop2 is the equipment, to which we have assigned an Material BOM =
CPU
While CPU has further components, signified by the check mark in the assembly
column.
If you double click on the cpu and continue you will be able to see the
components the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
To display structure of BOM = IH03

BOM Explosion

Execute
BOM explosion will show the eqp and the components below it, and once you
click on the arrow next to Desktop, it will then show the material components
