Independent Samples t-Test (Part 1)

The researchers wanted to know the effectiveness of 2 different type of light (red and blue) in
terms of improving the vertical growth and number of fruits of the Tomato plant. He planted Tomato
plant treated with red and blue light and measured the height after 2 weeks.

Ho: There is no significant increase in the mean growth of Tomato plant in terms of vertical growth
and number of fruits when exposed to (red and blue light.).

As shown in the Table 1,the mean vertical growth and of Tomato plant when treated with clay
is higher than the mean of veritcal growth when treated with loam.Further, when the independent t-test
was carried out it shows that the difference in the mean is not significant.Furthermore, when the result
shows, its shows that the t-crit is greater than the t-comp which means that the decision is to accept the
null. Therefore, there is no significant increase on the growth of tomato plant when treated with clay
and loan in terms of its vertical growth .This implies that when Tomato Plant was treated with clay and
soil is not effective in terms of increasing the vertical growth

Paired Samples t-Test

The researchers wanted to find out the effect of the different types of light (red and blue) and
types of soil (loam and clay) in terms of increasing the number of the leaves of Tomato plant. He
measured the height of tomato plant before treatment and measured it again 2 weeks after treatment.

One Samples t-Test

A company claimed that their different types of light (white and blue) and types of soil (loam
and clay) is an effective factor in terms of increasing the number of fruits and vertical growth of Tomato
plant. One students of ZNHS West wanted to validate this claim and conducted an experiment.

Ho. There is no significant increase in the mean vertical growth compared to a standard.

means that the decision is to accept the null hypothesis. Therefore, there is no significant increase in

However, when one-sample t-test was carried out it shows that the difference in the mean is significant.
Furthermore, when the result shows that the t-crit is higher than t-computed which means that the
decision is to reject the null hypothesis. Therefore, there is a significant increase in the mean vertical

that the claim of company is not true.
