Salient features of your Ph.D. research work
To d e v e l o p prediction models for mechanical properties of Eucalyptus tereticornis. The strength values of wood
samples determined using Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and correlate with NIR spectra and the property of
interest are correlated using multivariate techniques. The reliability of the correlation is validated and validated model
can be used to predict the properties of interest for unknown samples. This work will be useful to understand the
strength properties of the commercial timber of this plant species. It can be used to reduce the time and cost of wood
property evaluation. The utility of the study will incorporate quick and precise wood quality assessment non destructive
techniques like FT-NIR spectroscopy for in tree improvement programs.

I believe that teachers must understand that their
contributions are most important. As professionals, they
are responsible for educating and igniting the young minds
and facilitating their overall academic as well as personal
development.I would like to motivate the students of
physics towards the new horizon of this integrated field. I
can inculcate this approach among the students after
exploring their individual interest about specific field of
physics and then curriculum can be molded with respect to
their particular interest and specialization. I will also help
them to develop their skills for working at different levels
in society. I believe that, when concepts of physics are
imparted in such manner (i.e. as per the demand of
market/new trends of science and technology/ development
in physics/ strategy for future etc.) that students feel more
comfortable with the future challenges.
My research work was mainly concerned with the
estimation of physical properties of wood and finding out
wood moisture relationship. Besides this, I have also
taught physics to M.Sc. Wood Science students for 2 years
at Forest Research Institute University, Dehradun, India. I
also had an opportunity to assist my Professor/Senior
Scientists in guiding post graduation students in their
dissertation work; this gave me an opportunity to
understand the concept of experimental aspects of
teaching in addition to theoretical phase. As assistant
Professor at one of the Institution, this year I have also
supervised two M.Sc. dissertation thesis in wood physics
entitled, namely “Air permeability related vacuum
press drying characteristic of wood” and “Dielectric
constant of some timbers at microwave frequencies”.
Having, both teaching and research experience in the field
of physics and my research temperament, I assure that I
will be able to fulfill the need of physics students of HNB
Garhwal University. As a physicist I can teach both
classical and quantum mechanics of material very well and
for justifying my understanding about mechanics of the
materials. During my research work, I have consulted
number of publications and literatures for estimating
different mechanical properties of wood material and
examined the correlation between NIR spectrum and wood
properties.
To execute my collective knowledge and experience of
Education field, I will encourage students to develop the
ability to solve practical problems in an innovative and
creative manner through the application of appropriate
knowledge and skills by devising and implementing
solutions in a systematic manner through proper
mechanism and design.
