SUPERCOMPUTER

. A supercomputer is a type of computer that has the

architecture, resources and components to achieve
massive computing power.
Today's supercomputers consists of tens of thousands of
processors that are able to perform billions and trillions of
calculations or computations per second.

Examples of special-
purpose supercomputers include Belle, Deep Blue, and
Hydra, for playing chess, Gravity Pipe for astrophysics,
MDGRAPE-3 for protein structure computation molecular
dynamics and Deep Crack, for breaking the DES cipher.

WORLD FAST COMPUTER

The world's two fastest supercomputers are now
American, according to the rankings that are released
biannually. The two computers, Summit and Sierra, both
use IBM technology. Summit was crowned the world's
fastest computer back in June when it performed the
mathematical test LINPACK at 122.3 petaflops per second
The TOP500 project ranks and details the 500 most
powerful non-distributed computer systems in the world.
The project was started in 1993 and publishes an updated
list of the supercomputers twice a year. Wikipedia

USES OF SUPERCOMPUTER
Traditional uses for supercomputers have been in oil
and gas exploration, converting seismic data into maps
that indicate where to drill oil and/or gas wells. They are
employed in engineering simulations such as fluid
dynamics calculations on automobiles that look at drag
and aerodynamic efficiency.
MAINFRAME COMPUTER
A mainframe computer is a very large computer capable
of handling and processing very large amounts of data
quickly. They are used by large institutions, such as
government agencies and large corporations.

EXAMPLE
Modern mainframes, notably the IBM zSeries, System z9
and System z10 servers, offer two levels of virtualization:
logical partitions (LPARs, via the PR/SM facility) and
virtual machines (via the z/VM operating system).

MAINFRAME COMPUTER USES

Mainframe concepts
Just about everyone has used a mainframe computer at
one point or another. If you ever used an automated teller
machine (ATM) to interact with your bank account,
you used a mainframe. Today, mainframe
computers play a central role in the daily operations of
most of the world's largest corporations.
WORLD FIRST MAINFRAME COMPUTER
The UNIVAC I (UNIVersal Automatic Computer I) was
the first commercial mainframe computer produced in
the United States, in March , 1951. It was designed
principally by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly, the
inventors of the ENIAC, the first general purpose
electronic digital computer, operational in 1946.

Personal computer
A personal computer is a general-purpose, cost-
effective computer that is designed to be used by a single
end-user. ... Businesses make use of PCs to perform
tasks like accounting, desktop publishing and word
processing as well as to run database and spreadsheets.

Personal computer history

doesn't begin with IBM or Microsoft, although Microsoft
was an early participant in the fledgling PC industry. The
first personal computers, introduced in 1975, came as
kits: The MITS Altair 8800, followed by the IMSAI 8080, an
Altair clone. (Yes, cloning has been around

PCs at Home
At home, the most popular use for personal
computers is for playing games. Businesses use

desktop publishing, and for running spreadsheet and
database management applications. Image: Example of

IMPORTANT
Personal computers have become an important part of
society with people depending on them for activities from
business to entertainment or education. Access to
technology, especially to personal computers (PCs), has
shifted from privilege to necessity in many parts of the
world.
