ANS: Two nation theory is the basis of creation of Pakistan. It was first proposed by Sir Sayed
Ahmed khan. He is known as the architect of two nation theory. It states that Muslims and
Hindus are two different nations with their own distinctive identity. Two nation theory is the
product of idealogy of Pakistan because with idealogy Muslims came to know that they are a
saperate nation, a saperate identity and they should live their lives according to their religion.
Two nation theory served a base for creation of Pakistan.

The phenomenon of Two-Nation theory originated with the advent of Islam in the Sub-Continent
(712AD). According to Jinnah, The concept of two nation theory originated the day, when the
first Hindu converted to Muslim.

Muslims ruled india for several hundred years and this rule created self pride and attachment
with religio political identity. Due to this they realized they were very important.

Another problem that led to the development of the two nation theory was Urdu-Hindi
controversy. As we know that Urdu language was born in India and India was considered as
golden sparrow in terms of its fertility and men power. Many invaders came to occupy It for
various purposes. It so happened that when different people from different regions of the world
came to buy and sell their language also got exchanged. It was termed as the “language of
troops”. After war of 1857 when the British Crown’s wrath fell upon the Muslims , the Hindus
considered it to be a perfect time to replace Urdu with their language Hindi. That’s when
Muslims thought that when the language of the nation is not safe at the hands of the other nation,
it would be unwise to live with them. This passion and love for Urdu was a sign of Muslims
unity so they adopted her as national language of the country.

Sir Sayed Ahmed Khan advised muslims to stay away from congress because he thought that
Muslims are not in position to involve in anti-government activities. Sir Sayed’s fear of Hindus
domination also sowed the seed for the “two nation theory”.
In Allahabad’s address Allama Iqbal defined the Muslims of India as a nation and suggested that
there could be no possibility of peace in the country unless and until they were recognized as a
nation

All these factors led to the development of two nation theory which in turn led to the
development of our beautiful Pakistan.

 What do you know about the Allama Iqbal’s vision of a separate Muslim state?

Enlist any five relevant points. 5 Marks

Ans: The lives of indian Muslims was horrible. They were living like slaves and they had no
vision. That’s when Allama Mohammad Iqbal came to show them right path. He presented a
vision and dream in his Allahabad’s address. Iqbal presented a review of the political and social
situation of India and solutions to its problems. He evaluated the importance of role of Islam in
the lives of Muslims of British India. He explained that Islam offers an ethical order, socio-
political structure, legal framework, code of life, culture and civilization. It is a living, dynamic
force that has a profound impact on the lives of Indian Muslims. With the force of Islam the
scattered and disoriented people have been turned into an organized force.

He also said that despite living together for several hundred years they are very saperate and
Hindu traditions cannot be mixed with Islamic traditions. It is true that Jinnah great role was a
highly important contributing factor; but without intense religious zeal for an Islamic state on the
part of Muslim masses, Jinnah could not have achieved Pakistan. Khilafat leaders like Maulana
Muhammad Ali and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and poets like Hali, Akbar Allahabdi and Iqbal
were mainly responsible for making Muslims conscious of their separate national and cultural
identity.
