Assignment No. 2

(Solution)

Q1. Texting is a valuable way of communication but some people spend too much time in
sending messages by phone or Facebook instead of interacting with others face to face.
Addressing an audience of your peers, explain your point of view in detail. Write down a
paragraph of 250 to 300 words. (10 Marks)

Ans: Texting is a valuable way of communication. It is an easier way for people to communicate
with others living near or far away at any place of the world with no time.

In the 17th century, people had to wait for months to receive replies, but today they just need a
minute to receive a message. Let’s understand the effectiveness of texting following a simple
example.

You are not allowed to use a phone is a restricted area, it might be a class or a meeting or
whatever. Suddenly, you realized that you need to pass out an immediate information concerning
something very important, text it. You are done while nothing has caused the inconvenience for
others.

But,there is another picture of texting is that, through texting people spend too much time
sending messages by phone and Facebook instead of interacting with others face to face. People
sitting together at any place do not talk to each other. They do not speak a single word and keep
typing texts ignoring people sitting beside them. Even in homes, family members do not talk to
each other and they have no idea about their home related issues while they remain so much busy
in text activity. This makes people feel ignored, although they might not being ignored
intentionally.

As “SMS” stands for short messaging service, it should be used for short conversations only.
Conclusively, texting is a very effective way of communication if used for the purpose only.
Texting should not become an addiction and if it changes into a permanent habit, it creates a
negative impact on society especially in young generation because they might not be mature
enough to realize the worth of their time that is being spent on too much texting.

1 Outward appearance can be deceptive. 2 Eric, a friendly and good-humored college student, is a
prime example. 3 On the days when Eric is absent from classes, his professors seem to miss his
lively personality. 4 One day after psychology class, Eric asked his classmate Mona if she wanted
to have lunch with him, and she felt happy that Eric wanted to be her friend. 5 Later, while they
were sitting at a booth together eating double cheeseburgers and home fries, Eric took out a small
brown envelope with several kinds of colorful pills inside. 6 “Which one?” he asked. 7 “They’re
great because you’ll be so amped up that you won’t need to sleep for a week.” 8 Mona must have
looked surprised because Eric said, “Don’t worry.” 9 He went on to say, “They’re not very
expensive, and I’ll even cut you a break this time.” 10 Mona told him that she didn’t want any
pills. 11 Finally, Eric said, “Your loss,” and then got up and walked away without even saying
good-bye or paying for his portion of the lunch bill. 12 Mona felt very disappointed. 13 Eric didn’t
want to be her friend. 14 He only wanted to find more people to buy his drugs.
