GLOBAL DEFENCE HELICOPTER 2019. GRATEFUL THANKS TO THE
GOD FOR HIS BLESSING, SO WE CAN GET TOGETHER HERE IN
MARITIN HOTEL DRESDEN, GERMANY WITH HEALTY CONDITION
AND FULL OF FRIENDSHIP, TO OFFICIALLY AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER
OF GLOBAL DEFENCE HELICOPTER 2019.

GENERAL AND AIM
IN THIS OPPORTUNITY I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT ABOUT “HELICOPTER
OPERATIONS IN INDONESIA.
INTRODUCTION
-INDONESIA IS THE LARGEST ARCHIPELAGO AND THE FORTH
POPULOUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, WITH MORE THAN
SEVENTEEN THOUSAND ISLANDS. INDONESIA CONSISTING OF
FIVE MAIN ISLANDS NAMELY SUMATRA, JAVA, KALIMANTAN,
SULAWESI AND PAPUA. TECTONICALLY, INDONESIA IS HIGHLY
UNSTABLE, MAKING IT A SITE OF NUMEROUS VOLCANOES AND
FREQUENT EARTHQUAKES. IT LIES ON THE PACIFIC RING OF FIRE
WHERE THE INDO-AUSTRALIAN PLATE AND THE PACIFIC PLATE
ARE PUSHED UNDER THE EURASIAN PLATE WHERE THEY MELT
AT ABOUT 100 KILOMETRES (62 MILES) DEEP. A STRING OF
VOLCANOES RUNS THROUGH SUMATRA, JAVA, BALI AND NUSA
TENGGARA, AND THEN TO THE BANDA ISLANDS OF MALUKU TO
NORTHEASTERN SULAWESI. OF THE 400 VOLCANOES, AROUND
130 ARE ACTIVE. BETWEEN 1972 AND 1991, THERE WERE 29
VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS, MOSTLY ON JAVA. VOLCANIC ASH HAS
MADE AGRICULTURAL CONDITIONS UNPREDICTABLE IN SOME
AREAS.

- INDONESIA IS THE 57TH MEMBER STATE TO JOIN ICAO IN 27


APRIL 1950 AND FOR THE FIRST TIME ELECTED AS THE MEMBER
OF THE ICAO COUNCIL (PART III) IN 1962 ON THE CONVENING OF
THE 14TH SESSION OF ICAO ASSEMBLY IN ROME. INDONESIA
WAS SERVING AS THE MEMBER OF ICAO COUNCIL (PART III) FOR
36 YEARS IN 12 TRIENNIUM PERIOD.

-AIM POINT OF MY PRESENTATION IS TO INTRODUCE ABOUT


INDONESIAN HELICOPTER MISSIONS/OPERATIONS, TECHNICAL
OPERATIONS, AND PROBLEMS ALONG THE MISSIONS.
HISTORY

THE INDONESIAN HELICOPTER SQUADRON WAS ESTABLISHED AT

HISTORY 1953, WHICH THE HILLER-360 AS THE FIRST HELICOPTER AND


THE FIRST PILOT WAS AIR COMMODORE WIWEKO SUPONO, HE
WAS A PILOT FROM UNITED STATES AVIATION SCHOOL IN LATE
1950S.
TO DEVELOP THE HELICOPTER SQUADRON AIR
COMMODORE WIWEKO SUPONO AND COLEGUE WAS BUILD THE
FIRST SQUADRON HELICOPTER IT WAS 6TH SQUADRON AT
HUSEIN SASTRANEGARA AIR FORCE BASE, BANDUNG. AT 1963
THE HELICOPTER SQUADRON WAS MOVED TO SEMPLAK,
BOGOR, WEST JAVA, NOW ATANG SENDJAJA AIRFORCE BASE.
AND FINALLY AT MAY 25TH 1965 COMMANDER OF THE
AIR FORCE VICE ADMIRAL OEMAR DHANI INAUGURATED THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF AIR SQUADRONS UNDER WING OPS 004.
WING OPS 004 OVERSEES SQUADRON 6, 7 AND 8.
NOW, INDONESIAN AIR FORCE HAS 4 SQ OF HELICOPTER.
THERE ARE 6,7,8, AND 45. EACH OF SQ HAVE DIFFERENT TYPE OF
HELICOPTER AND DIFFERENT FUNCTION FOR EACH HELICOPTER.

AIR FORCE ACTIVITIES. TO SUPPORT THIS TASK, THE AIR FORCE HAS 4 AIR
SQUADRONS:
1. 6 SQUADRON (NAS-332/AS-332 SUPERPUMA L1,C1,C1E)
2. 7 SQUADRON (EC-120B COLIBRI)
3. 8 SQUADRON (EC-725 CARACAL AND SA-330 PUMA)
4. 45 SQUADRON (NAS-332/AS-332 SUPERPUMA L1,L2)

ARMY, NAVY AND NATIONAL AUTHORITY. THE ARMY IN
CARRYING OUT ITS DUTIES WAS ALSO ASSISTED BY SEVERAL
HELICOPTER SQUADRONS, WHO CARRIED OUT COMBAT
OPERATIONS MISSIONS, SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS AND
LOGISTICAL SUPPORT.

12 SQUADRON (BELL 412, AS-550 FENNEC)
13 SQUADRON (BELL 412, AS-550 FENNEC, BOLKOW 105)
21 SQUADRON (BELL 412, BO 105) AND
31 SQUADRON (MI 35, MI 17, AH-64 E APACHE).
NAVY

THIS IS THE NAVY'S HELICOPTER AND MISSIONS, FIRST COMBAT

NAVY
OPERATIONS IN COUNTERACTING SUBMARINES CONDUCTED BY
AS-565 MBE PHANTER, SAR OPERATIONS, AND LOGISTICAL
SUPPORT.

THE NAVY HAS 2 HELICOPTER SQUADRONS WHICH ARE:


-400 SQUADRON : (NBELL-412, NBO-105 BOLKOW)
-200 SQUADRON : (EC-120B COLIBRI)
NATIONAL AUTHORITY

THEN, HERE IS A NATIONAL AGENCY THAT USES HELICOPTERS TO


NATIONAL SUPPORT AND ASSIST IN THE FRAMEWORK OF DISASTER
MANAGEMENT IN INDONESIA, SUCH AS FIRE FIGHTING FOREST
AUTHORITY AND LAND FIRES IN SEVERAL REGIONS IN INDONESIA USING
WATER BOMBING. SAR OPERATION TO RESCUE DISASTER
VICTIMS.

THE PROBLEMS OF INDONESIAN HELICOPTER ARE TECHNOLOGY

PROBLEM, OPERATIONAL PROBLEM, AND KNOWLEDGE

TECHNOLOGY
TECHNOLOGY PROBLEM IS MOSTLY INDONESIAN HELICOPTERS
STILL HAS USED ANALOG INSTRUMENT UNTIL NOW ESPECIALLY
FOR THE PRODUCTION BEFORE 2002.

OPERATIONAL
ONE OF THE OPERATIONAL PROBLEM IS USING OF WATER
BOMBING OPERATION FOR FIRE FIGHTING, LIKE IN SUMATERA
AND KALIMANTAN FOREST IS NOT OPTIMAL, BECAUSE WE JUST
USE WATER BOMBING EQUIPMENT IN NATIONAL AUTHORITY
HELICOPTER AND FOR MILITARY WATER BOMBING EQUIPMENT
IS NOT USED AND APLLIED YET. SO WE NEED TO APPLY THE
OPERATIONAL AND TECHNICAL PROCEDURE OF WATER
BOMBING.

KNOWLEDGE
THE KNOWLEDGE PROBLEM IS INDONESIAN HELICOPTER
ESPECIALLY FOR MILITARY DO NOT INVOLVE YET TO
COMMUNITY AND FORUM ABOUT HELICOPTER IN THE WORLD.
SO WE CAN TRANSFER AND SHARING ABOUT KNOWLEDGE,
TECHNOLOGY, AND EXPERIENCE ABOUT HELICOPTER.
