from the unit or at least locate them at one corner of the unit. Locate continuous ignition
sources upwind of the process units. "

Guidelines for engineering design for process safety (§ 3.4.1)
"A preliminary identification of various hazards during early planning stages of the project
will heip establish proper layout at the beginning of the project and prevent design rework
later. The selected layout should minimize the personal injuries, overall property damage and
related business interruption from an accident. Hazard evaluation will also aid in establishing
the relative orientation of blocks or units within the plants, location of the control room and
fire fighting facilities.
Good layout can reduce the effacts of some of the controllable factors such as liquid spills
and uncontrollable factors such as exposure to natural hazards, site slope, wind direction and
force, that contribute to losses [...]. Locating ignition sources such as fired heaters,
incinerators and flares upwind of potential vapor leaks will reduce the likelihood of an
unconfined vapour cloud explosion or fire.”

Recommended Practice for Design and Hazards Analysis for Offshore Production Facilities
Although this API refers to offshore facilities, the chapter 5.1 General on Platform
arrangements can be used as a reference for the location of the furnaces.fone a
