I. Objectives:
1. Find the composition of the given functions.
2. Perform operations in order to determine the composite of the given
functions
3. Evaluate a given function and substitute a respective value for a certain
operation
4. Use the value obtained on evaluation of function to determine the composite
of functions
A. Topic: Functions
Sub topic: Evaluation of Function; Operations on Functions; Composition of
Functions
B. Reference: General Mathematics Learner’s Material First Edition 2016 pp 1-12
and General Mathematics Lynie Dimasuay et al pp 1-7
C. Materials Used: Chalk and Blackboard
B. Priming Activity: Let the student dance the “operation dance challenge.”(Plus,
Minus, Times, Divide)
C. Lesson Proper
a. Activity: Discuss certain terminologies relating to evaluation, operation and
composition of functions.
b. Analysis: Specify its function or purpose for a particular operation either in
getting the sum, the difference, the product or the quotient. Specify its
relevance in evaluating the composite of given functions.
c. Abstraction: Perform all operations for a given set of functions. Include the
assessment of a specific function for a given independent variable, x.
Afterwards; use this value in order to derive the composition of functions.
d. Application: Evaluate the importance of different operations in certain
topics in all fields of Mathematics and specify its importance on the
composition of functions.
D. Assessment:
Direction: Solve for the following:
Given that f(x) = √𝑥 + 6 and g(x)= 4𝑥 2 - 19x + 45
a. (fΟg)(-5)
b. (fΟg)(-4)
c. (fΟg) (-8)
d. (fΟg) (3)
e. (fΟg) (2)
E. Assignment:
Research about important terminologies related to rational function.
