uniquely-branded, high quality product intended for sale through social media and direct selling.
13
The product’s initial position is to offer a unique twist on regular butter and margarine that will

II. S.W.O.T. Analysis

Internal Audit: Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

- Being able to produce tasty and healthy products that cater to the consumers’
needs.
- Uniqueness: we stand out as a unique and healthy alternative to plain butter and
margarine.
- Strong relationships with customers.
- Marimaeve’s garlic butter witnessed customers that are satisfied with the product
and will surely result in to repeat buying.

Weaknesses

- Lack of reputation: we haven’t established ourselves as a reputable Garlic Butter

provider in the market yet.
- Small portfolio of products concentrated into a few categories of food products.
- Limited and only local distribution network.
- Limited budget for advertising.

14
External Audit: Opportunities and Threats

Opportunities

- Non-plastic packaging that can be reused for those who are concerned with the
environment.
- Continual growth of the spread market.
- Increased focus on healthy food.

Threats

- Customer taste and preference may vary from one person to another.
- Increased competition from local spread makers.

Discussion of Business Risk

Strategic risks are one of the risks the company may face. When a company decides to
implement a new business strategy, such as manufacturing new products, the outcomes may be
uncertain. The economy is also a threat to the business. When the economy rises and falls, so
does the demand for goods by the consumer market, so we need to make sure to lower the cost of
our product but keep the quality to keep our customers satisfied no matter what state the
economy is in. And lastly, competitors are a natural business risk because competition between
companies is inevitable. Competitors are risks because similar businesses compete for the same
customers. That is why Marimaeve’s Garlic Butter needs to stay ahead of its competitors to
maintain a sustainable business.

IV. Product Development

Product Concept

In today’s world, every consumer seeks importance and convenience in every product they buy
that is why we created Garlic Butter to make cooking easy for our consumers while not
sacrificing the health benefits because most of the time, healthy and tasty food requires more
time and effort to prepare. Instead of melting butter and sautéing garlic separately, our
consumers can have both ingredients readily available in the form of Garlic Butter. Apart from
cooking purposes, Garlic Butter is often considered as a healthy ingredient which serves multiple
health benefits.
19
Product Design

We used a glass jar with a gold cap in order for our Garlic Butter to look sophisticated and classy
despite having an affordable price. We created a sticker label that catches the eye of the
consumers and it is complete with all the information. Lastly, we used a clear seal to keep our
products fresh.

Product Quality and Features

We created a perfect harmony of four (4) main ingredient that produces excellent texture. Apart
from cooking purposes, Garlic Butter is often considered as a healthy ingredient which serves
multiple health benefits. Our Garlic Butter is a versatile element that can be used to toss, sauté,
bake, grill, and even as a spread. Our consumers have a lot of options on how to make use of our
products because apart from garlic bread, it can also be incorporated on salads, pasta, sautéed
vegetables and steaks. Our Garlic Butter is a storehouse of nutrient and goodness. It serves as a
comfort food with high nutritional value. It is even known to destroy harmful bacteria in our
system. Even if it has saturated fats, that has no harmful effects on our heart and body and it is
much healthier than margarine.

Packaging

We used a glass jar that comes in two sizes, 150g and 200g because some of our customers
suggested that the 150g is not enough for them. We also tightly seal every jar to keep our Garlic
Butter fresh.

Labeling

Our label consists of our logo, nutrition facts, manufacturing date and information about our
company so consumers are well informed about the product they’re buying.

24
Product Testing

In our first batch of product, it was too salty and there was too much pepper. So, in our second
batch we minimized that salt and pepper and we let our previous consumer taste the product and
they said that the taste was perfect and said that they would buy again because of the improved
formula. Other consumers also commented on the size of product because they want a bigger jar
because the 150g is easily consumed.

VIII. Experiential Learning

Angelo Largado

Patience and perseverance is the most important for this product management
class.Coming up with ideas for product development maybe the hardest part of product
development. First week in the class, we were told that we have to come up with unique ideas for
developing a product. We actually have a lot of ideas but most of them are got ejected since our
ideas are great but it may not sell because of small marketability. Some ideas were great but we
do not know how to develop it or we do nothave resource to develop it.

Product management class is not all about developing a product and sell it, but it is where
we learn that product are not just for selling, products are problem solvers. We learned that we
develop a product to solve people’s problems and also to satisfies costumers. During developing
our product, we have to acknowledge people’s problems and build ideas around it for how are
we going to be solving it. We may come up with ideas for a product but we do not have any
knowledge how it will solves people’s problem.

Most of our ideas got rejected by our professor because she knows that it will not sell in
the market for it is not solving any problem or not satisfying a customer thus, there will be no
market for it. We spent a lot of time and money developing prototypes of our products, but then
we realized if we solve our most common problem in the kitchen, then we came up with Garlic
Butter and then it got approved considering we love garlic bread for breakfast. It helps us to save
time cooking in the kitchen as a result of combining the ingredients in one bottle.

I absolutely learned many things regarding in product management class. Developing a

new product for market is extremely hard for us, since this is our first time to do task such as
this. All the learnings I acquired will not be forgotten perhaps it may definitely be helpful for me.
The process of all of this is comparable to a roller coaster ride; ups and downs, a lot happed in
the past few months that is really hard for our group and a lot of genuinely great things also.
Collaborating is one of the most important thing happened to us as a group and as Helen Keller
once said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” and I agree to that statement.

This class really change my perspective towards products, before I look at a product and
try and find out if that’s good for me or not, now I look at a product and wonder if what process
that product go through and it made me critical about my purchase decisions. I sure learned
many things from this experience and I am greatly thankful for all of this.

39
Stephanie Eve G. Obra

Experience, Reflect, Conceptualize and Experiment those are the right attitude before
producing the right and best product here in our class. It might look easy but when you are
already in the situation or in process in creating it your perseverance and determination will be
put to test, good thing we have the best professor who help us and guide us producing the best
and one of a kind product. In every product that each of the group has experienced challenges
and problem but after everything thru the guide of our professor we made a wonderful product.
In every aspect of life there is a step by step process in order for us to achieve what we see
through our vision, Step by Step Little by Little and always looking for the reason why we first
started, even though at some point you wanted to give up or end whatever you started there is
always a hundred or thousand reason to start all over and always remember through your hard
and perseverance it will pay off if you stick and believe in yourself that you will accomplish
everything you dream of, this class is very helpful for every student that is looking forward to
start up a business or enter in the outrageous world of marketing and advertising.

Now with this kind of experience provided by this class I am ready and we are ready to
face different kind of challenges that we might experience in the real world, solving it by a step
by step process we can achieve and surpass any problem that we may experience thanks to our
Professor and our very own Adamson University for providing this kind of opportunity and
equipping every student and preparing them to be globally competitive.

Nina Maricarl Joble

I have learned a lot in this subject and, experienced hardships and rejections. I believe that this
subject has shaped me into the person that I will be in the future. It taught me how to be patient
and to realize that sometimes, we have to make sacrifices and risks because in the end, the
reward will always be bigger than the hardships I may face. The journey to making a new
product was very hard. We had a lot of ideas; some of them were good but it was executed
poorly. My groupmates and I experienced rejection a lot of times but that didn’t stop us from
brainstorming on what new product to make. Product management is very essential for us
marketing students since we are the future leaders in business industry. The role of Product
management is to define, develop and maintain products and services that provide more value
than the competition. It helps build a sustainable competitive advantage and deliver
measurable benefit to the business. There are many things to consider when making a new
product. It must answer the question, “Who is your target market?” because if it can’t, there’s
something wrong with your product. A new product should not only satisfy the customer’s
needs and wants but it must also bring a solution to their everyday problems. Just like our
garlic butter, we created it to bring convenience into our customer’s lives. I also learned that
creating a new product doesn’t happen overnight, it goes through a lot of process and repeating
that process in order to perfect the product. Once you’ve created a new product, it doesn’t stop
there, you still have to test the products and improve it based on your customer’s opinion. I
realized that being rejected means that you just have to try harder and always pray that the
Lord guides us in everything we do. I am very thankful to our Professor, Dr. Daraway for
teaching us everything we have learned. Through taking this course, I understood that product
management plays a very important role in achieving organizational excellence by effective
product management. This subject taught me that to be able to achieve a particular goal you
must exert an effort, time and creativity to be able to come up with a great outcome.
