“The act of moving, proceeding, or acting in an invisible way is commonly referred as Scattering from various shapes:
stealth.” It is an art of deception . Naval architects has a big role in making a ship stealthy.

INTRODUCTION

Stealth includes RF Stealth, Infrared Stealth, Visual Stealth, and Acoustic Stealth, but because
of the long detection range of radar, RF Stealth is the most important one.
From the beginning of military warfare, it has always been extremely important to know the
enemy position and hide oneself to capitalize on elements of surprise and initiative, and
same is true for naval warfare.
APPLIED MECHANICS, IITD

Radar is the primary instrument used for detecting enemy platforms today. Radar detects a
target by clocking time taken by a known pulse of electromagnetic energy to get to the
target and return. Source
Radar Cross Section (RCS) is the measure of reflective strength of a target, so it decides how
early a target can be detected. The less is the energy reflected back to the source ,the less is Flat plate
your RCS
The less is your RCS, the less is the chance that you will get detected by the enemy So shape of the geometry has a major role to play in detection of RCS.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The concept of shaping is to orient the target surfaces and edges to deflect the scattered
energy in directions away from the radar. Calculating the reflected energy is not an easy
process . It involves complex calculations and is a cumbersome process. Various
computational methods are used at present to calculate the RCS.
Modern RCS software use a combination of high frequency methods to determine the
RCS of a warship . Most common is to use physical optics along with one or more
methods such as wave optics to account for different scattering mechanisms.

ANSYS HFSS is one of the software that can be used to calculate the RCS of objects by
Calculation using Ansys HFSS
solving Maxwell's equations. Various simulations are carried out in this software to optimize
the design for minimum RCS within the acceptable limits.
