Celine: Hey hey hey! It’s me Celine Evangelista, and I am currently in Far Eastern
University.

Celine: You know what guys? this is my first time vlogging so it is a little bit awkward
and I don’t really know what to say in front of the camera, so I’m sorry but I’ll probably
think of a topic to talk about with you.

*Looks distracted*

*Sees Mengee*

Celine: Look who I found! This is my friend Mengee.

Mengee: What are you doing? Are you a vlogger now?

Celine: Yes I am. This is actually my first time vlogging and gosh! I don’t know what to
talk about.

Mengee: hmm why not tell your viewers about your good reads this month? Our break
is up. I have to go to class see you later!

Celine: See you Meng! Okay guys so actually, I read this article from The Atlantic, I
think the title is “Why technology favors tyranny”. So, it is written by historian Yuval
Noah Harari, and he argues that artificial intelligence may subvert democracy by
concentrating power in a small elite group.

Celine: There is a definite connection between democracy and the ideals of liberty and
equality. Harari believes that tyranny is the opposite of democracy, which I don’t agree
with because tyranny is the totalitarian form of democracy. I’ve actually read something
where Plato proposed that democracy naturally and inevitably leads to tyranny. Equality
and freedom don’t mix, they practically exclude each other. Equality doesn’t exist in
nature and therefore must be established by force.

Celine: Harari’s main point that technology in general- specifically Artificial Intelligence,
frees the things that leads to tyranny. Technology empowers democracy.

Celine: Harari goes on and raised some economic issues like displacement of workers
and rising elites. Technology endangers liberty because it advances liberty. Technology
leverages a man’s will and intellect. Technology particularly artificial intelligence makes
the government pervasive. One man can reach millions of people in just a matter of
seconds with the use of technology.
Celine: I totally agree that it is the obscurity of Artificial intelligence that threatens our
liberty. Artificial Intelligence blinds us to the motives and processes being done by the
elite.

Celine: The thing that I don’t understand is what can we do to avoid our fate, to avoid
being replaced by artificial intelligence and belonging to a “useless class” which seems
to come faster and faster.

Celine: So that is all the time I had today! See you!
