Dear Student

Please find herewith a guide to help you set realistic targets for Passing your University courses

Remember, in this University, your Final Course Mark comprises CA component and Final written Exam component. Follow the simple matrix
below to set realistic targets for yourself. This matrix is based on the CA: Final Exam ratio of 40:60.

% CA = CA Points) MUST OBTAIN % in Final Exam = Exam points GOOD TO OBTAIN in Exam % = points OR better

30 12 64 = 38 70 or better = 42 or better
35 14 60 = 36 70 or better = 42 or better
40 16 57 = 34 70 or better = 42 or better
45 18 53 = 32 70 or better = 42 or better
50 20 50 = 30 70 or better = 42 or better
55 22 47 = 28 65 or better = 39 or better
60 24 43 = 26 65 or better = 39 or better
65 26 40 = 24 60 or better = 36 or better
70 28 37 = 22 60 or better = 36 or better

NB: NB:
This column is for a 50% (Grade D) target This column is for a 60% (Grade C )or better target

The matrix tabulated above tells you that;

a) If you maintain low CA marks, you will be under heavy pressure to obtain high Final Exam marks even for the sake of getting 50%, a pass
grade (D)
b) If you maintain high CA marks you will be under moderate pressure yet having a greater chance of passing the course even with 50%
Final exam mark.
But most importantly, you can aim for a Final Exam mark equivalent to your high CA mark (65 or better) and obtain a satisfactory
course grade (C+ or better)
c) With current employment prospects, securing employment with a Grade D in any field is becoming a thing of the past.
This means, as more people attain University qualifications, the selection criterion is becoming more stringent. So, a pass degree
qualification is not attractive to any employer. So, secure tomorrow today!
