Motivation Letter
Yogyakarta, Indonesia 18th April 2018
Dear Sir/Madam, Committee of The Summer Research Program Tsukuba University,
My name is Elvira Rosana. I am writing to support my motivation letter for a place in
Summer Research Program Tsukuba University. I am a medical doctor and currently the young lecturer at Department of Biology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Bengkulu, Indonesia. Now, I am first semester student of postgraduate program in Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing of Gadjah Mada University in major of Biomedical Sciences and interest in Medical Molecular. I am interest in this course because my major study is about molecular especially in cancer study. In my thesis project I will explore about epigenetic which have association with growth of cancer. Focus in my thesis is about biomarker for cancer that analize epigenetic side especially microRNA in the biofluid of cancer patient. In patient’s who have cancer, example the micro-RNA which regulate mRNA tumor suppressor gene is down regulation attached in some reference. Beside that, I also study about current diagnostic and therapy for cancer. So, at this program I want participate at Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology or Hematology Laboratory. I hope at this laboratory, I can explore about basic of stem cell technology for current therapy especially in cancer and participate on going research there. Because the stem cell technology is developing in my country and have good prospected especially adult stem cell. The second laboratory that I want participate is Hematology. In this laboratory, I hope can upgrade my knowledge about hematology malignancy that is the one high prevalence cancer in my country, Indonesia. With the program training hematopoetic cell culture, flow cytometry and egipenetic approach or sequence procedure and immunostaining procedure, I want make mini project about epigenetic aspect especially microRNA that regulate malignancy of lymphoma. Because microRNA play a crucial role in hematopoiesis, for instance mir-155 and mir-181 as tumor suprressor mir. Research in vitro find that both mir-155 and mir-188 are key regulators of germinal centre (GC) B-cell differentiation. In Lymphoma Malignancy, both mir-155 and mir-188 in previous study showed down-regulation. I hope the result of my mini project can make me more understand about epigenetic regulatory and may contribute for cancer pathway that may develop for biomarker and therapy. After accomplishing master program, my next steps are doctoral program and post-doctoral education. Beside the knowledge and research from master program, the knowledge and experience from this course will be a strong basis for me to continue a deeper research in stem cell and molecular of cancer. In the future, I also interested become part of big project or multicenter project which is assotiation in molecular and stem cell study especially in cancer. With regard of above, as the current technology and methodology in molecular diagnostic and therapy, I am sure the Regenerative Medicine And Stem Cell Biology or Hematology laboratory at The Summer Research Program Tsukuba University will helps me to realize all of these plans. It will be the chance for me in order to pursue my goals and my future academic career. With my qualification and planning, I believe I am one of the suitable candidates for this program.
