MATERIAL
Engineering Data is accessed in ANSYS Workbench and a new material is defined. The material is
defined with modulus of elasticity, E=20x103 N/mm2.

GEOMETRY
The geometry is made in one dimension (1D) in the Design Modeler module of ANSYS. A line is
made and a cross-section is defined and radius is given to the circular section.

MESHING
Meshing is done for the geometry. For the simplification of problem, automatic meshing is done by
ANSYS. Only the number of divisions are defined.

LOADING
The loading is applied on the mid-point (second node) of the beam. The command of nodal force is
used to apply the load. The magnitude of load is 60x103N in the positive X-axis direction.

BOUNDARY CONDITIONS
The beam is fixed from its one end and the displacement on the other end is given in the problem
statement. First node is selected and is fixed by fixed support command. Moreover, displacement is
applied on the node of other end by Displacement command.

Figure 6: Fixed Support at One End

Figure 8: Displacement

Figure 7: Displacement Graph

RESULTS
Displacement:
The total deformation command is used in ANSYS to get the displacements in the beam. As a result,
the displacement at node 2 (u2) is found to be 1.5mm.

Figure 9: Displacement Results

Stress:
To find the stress at fixed end & mid-point of the beam, the Direct Stress command of ANSYS is used
and the maximum stress is at fixed end (200MPa) and on mid-point, the value is (-40MPa).

Support Reactions
The support reactions on the desired nodes are found by using the Probe command in the ANSYS.
The support reaction on fixed end is -50kN and is -10kN on the free end.
