 It seemed that your proposals had been improved. Given that I will accept all your
proposals, I would like you to take time to answer this assessment. This is to check as to
whether your study is feasible for a psychological experiment or not.
 Answer the following in separate page. This will also serve as a blue print or draft of your
manuscript.
Questions for Assessing a Sound Psychological Experiment

TITLE: The Effect of Physical Attractiveness in Males Discernment towards Female

Influencers in Facebook.

☑ Determine dependent and independent variables (JOHN IVERSON)

 What is your dependent variable?

The dependent variable is about female attractiveness in connection to facebook being

attractive and being famous.

 How are you going to measure your dependent variable?

The researchers are going to measure it by the reactions, we will use the heart reacts

to signify that they are attracted to them and if they are not attracted they will scroll it

down to signify they do not care.

 What is your independent variable?

The independent variable is famous attractive female and female that it is not

attractive and it is not famous.

 How are you going to manipulate those?

The researchers will manipulate those by triggering the subjects, make them see the

attractive famous female, and not attractive, not famous female to our subjects and we

will see if they will react to them with the “heart react” and by scrolling down the not

famous and not attractive female to signify they do not care.

 What are the levels of your independent variable?

This research have 2 levels of independent variable, which is the Famous attractive

female and not Famous attractive female.

 Operationally define your IVs and DVs.

The Dependent Variable is about famous attractive female which is in category of

reseacher Independent Variable to relate this is they have a lot of likers in facebook they

have atleast admirers we will see it by the comments in their uploaded picture.

☑ Research Hypothesis (JOHN IVERSON)

 Explicitly state your hypothesis?

Explicitly the hypothesis is, in today’s digital era we have Facebook that you can

upload your face, as your brand to make you famous it is evident to famous attractive

female that they are famous because they are attractive and if you are not attractive

they do not bother to react to your photo.

In what theory you were able to come up with this theory?

We come up to that idea to the study of

1. Effects of Gender and Physical Attractiveness on Visual Attention to Facebook

Profiles (Gwendolyn Seidman, 2013)
Results showed that participants paid more attention to the physical appearance (main profile
photograph) of female than of male profile owners and to the personal information (likes and interests)
of male than to female profile owners. Participants spent more time focusing on information that was
irrelevant to forming an impression of the profile owner (advertisements) when viewing the profiles of
unattractive than attractive individuals, suggesting that they made a greater effort to learn about these
individuals.

2. Name-Valence and Physical Attractiveness in Facebook: Their Compensatory

Effects on Friendship Acceptance (Kunz, 2013)
Name-valence and physical attractiveness have been shown to be associated with how people
respond toward others, in that people judge and behave more positively toward individuals with
positive names and individuals who are physically attractive.

3. Face off: Implications of visual cues on initiating friendship on Facebook (Shaojung

SharonWangShin-Il Moon, 2019)
The results indicated that both male and female subjects were more willing to initiate
friendships with opposite-sex profile owners with attractive photos. Subjects also displayed
comparatively higher willingness to make friends with profile owners who did not include visual cues
than with those who revealed an unattractive photo. The hyper personal model was supported and
extended to address gender attributes.

 What is the significance of answering this research gap?

The significance of answering this research gap is to know that until this very moment

male still not yet conscious of how narrow they look at the females, until now they base

their standards based on their looks, this study will at least the researchers hope that

males will be conscious of this problem. To have equal sight or view not a bias one for

each female to at least they will have a chance also to be famous or to be like by others

and to break the stigma in the society.

☑ Consider research setting

 Where do you plan to conduct your experiment?

The researchers will plan to conduct the experiment in an open area where subjects

are randomly selected and given a set of questions related to the experiment. In

order not to disturb them, the researchers will ask for permission and for their time

in completing the survey. As stated by the title, the subject will focus on male

students in any age that are within the campus or inside the university.

 What could be the extraneous variables or other variables that might be difficult to

control? How do you plan to control those EVs?

The researchers might come across old friends since they have been in the

university too and had interacted with most students, this may result to biased
opinions and answers. It may affect the results. Also, there are physical variables

present in the surroundings. There can be boisterous noises in the campus

especially in places where physical activities are present like the grandstand, oval,

food square, and the ULS. In controlling these extraneous variables, the researchers

came up with the idea of conducting the experiment in a setting where the subjects

can comfortably answer the surveys. These places can be the library and the huts

near JFH.

☑ Determine sampling procedure, random selection, random assignment and number of

participants (sofiaaaaaa)

 How are you going to screen your participants?

The experiment demands answer from male subjects in any age that is within the

campus only. Primarily, in order not to disturb any student with their personal

matter; the researchers will select subjects who are not busy and are comfortably

willing to participate. Prospect subjects can always decline and can always back out.

 What procedures you are going to employ in selecting your participants?

First, subjects in this research must be male students. Second, subjects should be

willing to answer the survey. Willingness is one of the key in attaining results. If the

subjects participated in answering, they will be given a short survey.

 How many participants you are planning to have?

De La Salle University- Dasmarinas population is massive. With the intention of

obtaining the results, the researchers will have to find ten subjects each. There are
four researchers so the final headcount of the subjects must be a total of forty male

students.

☑ Determine number of groups (sofffiiaaa)

 How many groups are you planning to have?

There are two groups in this experiment, one is the experimental group and the

other is the control group. For the experimental group, subjects will be given a

survey questionnaire pertaining to famous female influencers in Facebook and they

will rank or rate their attractiveness. On the other hand, the control group will not

have the content of famous female influencers. The control group will simply

answer questions with content of random people in Facebook and rate their

attractiveness.

 How many participants in each group you are planning to have?

In each researcher, ten male students are required to obtain. Fifteen male students

from it will be given an experimental type of questionnaire with the famous female

influencers while the other fifteen will have the random people on Facebook. In

total, there will be fifteen subjects in the experimental group and fifteen subjects in

the control group and the remaining ten subjects will be the reserve in case of

mortality cases.

 Are you planning to have a control group? Why and why not?
Indeed, the researchers planned to have a control group in order to obtain results

with accuracy. The control group is an essential part of an experiment because it

allows the research to eliminate and isolate the variables.

☑ Develop an assignment strategy (John Iverson &……….)

 Is the way you assigned groups can be considered experimental in nature? Explain.

The way that the researcher’s assigned groups can be considered experimental in

nature because the researcher will try to use pictures to test the reality in our society

how they look at things will affect how they treat others that males they treat females

by their reactions in Facebook, somehow that makes female stigma.

How are you going to assigned them equally?

We will assign them randomly.

 What is your back up plan just in case the participant or subject drops out?

Our back up plan is to let the participant or subject to drop out and then just find

another one.

☑ Consider ethics

The researchers will not be using deception to the experiment because they are just aiming for the

subjects point of view about attractiveness. Subjects will not be harm during the experiment, also

there is no instrument to be use. The researchers already have the consent for the subjects for them

to be informed about the do's and dont's of the experiment. For the token the researchers decided

to give free food and drinks in acknowledging their participation in the said experiment.
