ABSTRACT
Islamic Management is a growing and emerging disciple which
necessities are due for Islamic organizations. Now as Islamic
Economics and Islamic Banking concepts are established
practically, it is our obligation to establish Islamic Management
as a distinct concept. In this article an attempt has been taken to
define Islamic Management, to identify its special features and
principles, and to prove the distinctness of its entity. But It is a
fact that traditional authors ignore the great contributions of
Islam towards management. It is Islam, where managerial
appeals were coming from the very beginning of civilization
through the messengers of Allah (SWT) and it culminated in the
last prophet Muhammad (SAW). Due to lack of research and
deviation from Islam the golden history of the Muslims is
dominated day by day by secular and materialistic managerial
concepts. Unfortunately many conventional managerial concepts
remain unsuitable to the organizations of Muslim society.
Consequently Islamic Organizations, from family to national
level facing different problems and challenges and cannot show
productive role in comparison to conventional organizations. In
these circumstances, it has been proposed in the present study to
practice management based on Islamic values, adopting the
exemplary leadership role, human resource management and
development strategy proposed by Islam and application of
motivational techniques according to divine teachings. Lastly, it
has been pointed out and discussed different problems and
challenges, the constraints and possible remedial measures of
Islamic Management and other relevant issues.

ABSTRACT

Changing competitiveness in the global markets has created new

challenges for business organizations as well as individuals. To cope
with this changing environment, Human Resource Management (HRM)
practices are expected to play a more vital role in every firm. There is
no doubt that computers can support real human resource decisions in
recent competitive business world, but the information must be
available in a form that can be utilized effectively in the decision
making process. The most recent trend of managing human resource is
the use of HRIS software in a firm. HRIS is used in almost all of the
firms irrespective of size of the organization. It has already become
popular in the developed country. However, in Bangladesh most of the
manufacturing and service organizations have started to use HRIS tool
for managing human resource department. Yet it has to go a long way to
make the implementation successful. Lack of management commitment
and high cost of the software signify the major limitations for adopting
HRIS in Bangladesh. However, the significance of using HRIS is
admitted by the respondents of 24 firms. We collected data from the HR
professionals, HR managers, HRIS officers and software developers of
the organization. The collected data was analyzed through SPSS
software.

ABSTRACT

This study is conducted mainly to assess the fundamental functions of

HRM from both conventional and Islamic perspective and to examine
the contributions of Islam in human resource management (HRM). This
paper is made mainly on the basis of secondary data and information. In
Islamic sense, human resource is recognized as the most valuable asset
because it is the greatest creature of Allah (SWT). It is also remarkable
here that human resource management (HRM) of a company or an
industry is the precondition of enhancing its production process. The
relevance of Human Resource Management and Development to
economic growth only emerged as an important economic school of
thought after the World War II. However Islam emphasized its
importance from the very beginning of the civilization. In this study
some Islamic principles of ethics in HRM such as the principles of
Amanah (Trusteeship), the principles of dual responsibility, the
principles of institutional loyalty, the principles of public interest, the
principles of due benefit, the principles of efficient use of resources,
have been discussed. The prime responsibility of human resource
(employees) of an organization such as, tolerance and liberal attitude,
justice, mutual consultation, profit sharing etc have also been discussed.
From the analysis of the study it is found that if HR is not focused the
overall performance of the organization and the essence of Islamic
principles which have dealt with in a right and ethical manner, the work
efforts will be affected adversely.

ABSTRACT

Employees’ satisfaction is one of key influencing factors to

organizational performance and success. There is a common notion that
satisfied employees are more productive. Teachers are the inevitable
agents of educational institutions that create skilled and competent
manpower to serve the nation. Teaching is a service oriented job.
Likewise all other professionals performance of teachers are greatly
influenced by the amount of satisfaction they receive from their job.
Data used in this paper have been taken from an ongoing research work
for Doctor of Philosophy. The research is designed to measure overall
satisfaction of non-government college teachers of Pabna and Rajshahi
districts. A total of 310 teachers, 180 from Rajshahi and 130 from
Pabna, participated as respondents. Six job facets, nature of job, salary
and others financial benefits, working environment, autonomy in job,
job security, and promotion policy, were chosen to understand
satisfaction of the teachers about their job. A comparative analysis in
terms of job satisfaction was made between the teachers of Rajshahi and
Pabna districts. Majority of the teachers (76.12%) were found to have
moderate satisfaction about their jobs. No respondent was found to be
highly satisfied or highly dissatisfied with job. Teachers of non-
government colleges of Pabna District had higher job satisfaction than
the teachers of non-government colleges of Rajshahi District. Female
teachers from both of the districts were more satisfied than the male
ones. The research participants demonstrated poor satisfaction about
promotion policy and job security.

IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE AND OIL PRICE ON INDIAN

STOCK MARKET: A STUDY ON SENSEX

Sanjib Kumar Pakira

Department of Commerce, Maharaja Manindra Chandra College,

Calcutta University.

ABSTRACT

Numerous domestic and international factors directly or indirectly affect

the performance of the stock market. This study takes into consideration
two macroeconomic variables - Exchange Rate and Oil Price, and one
widely used complex index of the stock market of India – SENSEX.
The association between exchange rates, oil price and stock prices has
always been in mind of the economists because all play a vital role in
persuading the development of an economy including India. In recent
times, Indian investors are demonstrating uncase in the stock markets
due to exchange rate fluctuation. Exchange rate fluctuations will affect
international trades, thus influence the stock market. On the other hand,
higher international oil prices increase cost of production, which might
decrease profit of firms, and hence decreases stock prices. Therefore,
the expected relationship between oil price and stock price is negative.
The present paper investigates the impact of exchange rate and oil price
on SENSEX for the period starting from 2.1.99 to 31.12.2017 using
daily data. The present paper has been designed with the application of
unit root test, Johansen cointegration test and Granger causality test.
Johansen cointegration test result indicates that there exists a long-term
relationship among the selected variables. Granger causality test result
shows that there must be either Unidirectional or no causality among the
variables.

ABSTRACT

This study investigates the impact of some selected macroeconomic

variables on the performance of the non-life insurance companies of
Bangladesh. Here, we consider 32 such companies that are listed on
Dhaka stock exchange (thereafter ‘DSE’). These companies are
observed over the period of seven years (2009 to 2015) giving rise to
224 panel observations. In our study, we use two performance
measures, such as, return on asset and return on equity as dependent
variables. The explanatory variables are inflation rate, GDP growth rate,
interest rate, and exchange rate. Eight proxy variables such as age, size,
loss ratio, solvency margin, assets tangibility, liquidity ratio, debt ratio,
and management competence index are also used as controlled
variables. The research employs panel data regression methodology to
examine the effects of macroeconomic variables on the performance of
the aforementioned companies. The regression results of our study
suggest that except interest rate, none of the macroeconomic variables
has statistically significant influence on the performance of non-life
insurance companies. These results, indeed, contradict with economic
theories. On the other hand, firms’ specific factors; e.g. age, sizes, loss
ratio, solvency margin, tangibility of assets, and management
competence index have statistically significant impact on the
performance of the non-life insurance sector of Bangladesh. The interest
rate accompanied by the above referred firms' specific variables can be
recognized as determinants of the performance of these non-life
insurance companies. This analysis obviously provides some
noteworthy information to different stakeholders of the Bangladesh non-
life insurance sector. In particular, the findings of the study are expected
to be useful to both domestic and foreign investors to make more
rational decisions regarding selection of insurance companies’ stocks
for their portfolios at DSE. The concerned authorities may also use the
same results to formulate sound policies to ensure economic growth and
stability of the nation.

ABSTRACT

In today’s challenging and competitive environment efficient

management of liquidity is an integral component of overall corporate
strategy to create shareholders’ value. The efficiency with which
liquidity is managed is gleaned from effective utilization of current
assets and current liabilities. In fact, the efficiency in managing short
term assets as well as short term liabilities facilitates the company’s
profit curve soaring upward. The pharmaceutical industry of
Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing sectors in Bangladesh. This
sector is very dynamic and huge competition among the players of the
sector persists. It makes a significant contribution towards developing
the economy of the country. In this backdrop, the present paper seeks to
assess the liquidity management of Beximco Pharmaceutical Ltd., a
major player in the Bangladeshi pharmaceutical industry, during the
period 2006-2007 to 2015-2016. The data of the company under study

ABSTRACT

An inflow of FDI is very old in India. History says that the

establishment of East India Company British capital comes in India.
After the World War II, Japanese company came in India and enhance
their trade. FDI brings economic changes in the various sectors of
Indian economy. India is an acceptable destination for investors, thus
inflows are gradually increasing. Most of the sectors are open for FDI.
In 2014 the Government of India started a campaign called “Make in
India” for giving the inventors destination for manufacturing and
innovation. The effect of FDI in India is positive. It shows that after
1991 the GDP is increasing due to coming of foreign capital in different
forms. Various policies of the governments attract the investors to come
in India. FDI may be in different forms such as invest in listed
companies through FII or invest in listed or unlisted companies through
American Depository Receipts (ADR), Global Depository Receipts
(GDR), and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). Attempts have been taken to
analysis the effect of FDI in Indian Economy during 1991-2017.

ABSTRACT
The present research paper entails that the top most strategies required
as an emerging need to build and develop an integrated and efficient
agriculture product market system. The systematic integration is to be
done to readdress the true transformation taking place in agriculture
product distribution network in this age of globalization. The study is an
attempt to focus on the required shift from production-driven system to
demand-driven system which appears to be insufficient to penetrate the
end consumers in comparison to informal sources of existing agriculture
product market. The paper highlights the extended services in the form
of awareness program and training for the farmers and interface
between farmers and end consumers. The objective of the research work
is to focus on the development of efficient market system of agriculture
product particularly fresh fruit and vegetables with special reference to
the factors influencing consumers to visit informal markets. To analyze
the operational innovations required in the formation of demand-driven
marketing system instead of production-driven system, the approach is
to make the farmers independent from multiple intermediaries and to
extend services in order to benefit interface between farmers and end-
consumers. A descriptive research design has been considered as a
suitable methodology for the study and data analysis procedure. A
sample of 200 including 69 percent male and 31 percent female
respondents has been approached for the study. A convenience
purposive sampling is being used to organize the sample design on the
basis of available and approachable of respondents. The consideration
of the population consists of the consumers having access of either
static or mobile outlets or informal markets or other private retail stores.
Under this, the sample survey has covered different areas in three
districts, namely Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata in West Bengal. A case
study on Sufal Bangla, an initiative taken by the Government of West
Bengal, has been approached to analyze the penetration level of Sufal
Bangla emerging market points among end consumers and to observe
why the consumers are still preferring the informal market points of
agriculture product as their point of purchase. The study finds that very
few consumers have the access to the emerging market points of Sufal
Bangla outlets with a very poor presence penetration yet there is a ray of
hope with consumers’ future purchase preference; definitely it will
require high level of consumer awareness and frequent execution of
effective planned initiative taken by the Government.

University of Science and Technology, Pabna-6600, Bangladesh.

ABSTRACT

The Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) is an emerging

construct in the field of behavioral science and human resource
management. For about fifty years of critical study, the behavioral
scientists theorized and later empirically verified the value of interest on
organizational citizenship behavior. Nowadays OCB becomes the
widely cited topic among the practicing managers for the effective
functioning of the organization. On the basis of numerous interests on
OCB, this work is designed to clarify the definitional issues,
components, antecedents, precedence, outcomes and managerial value
of organizational citizenship behavior. In addition, based on the critical
review of the literature, this study highlights thirteen functional aspects
and managerial value of interest on organizational citizenship behavior.
The study concludes that promoting corporate citizen should be the
prime concern for building internal capabilities of an organization to
tackle the external changing competitive market scenario, strategic
market position, and corporate survival.

around the world. Accompanied with promising cultural exchanges
among the countries, it creates new jobs opportunities, determines the
country’s economic growth and supports the infrastructure
development. Tourism industry in Bangladesh is expected to upsurge up
to a satisfactory level within few years. Bangladesh offers a wide range
of tourist products, starting with cultural tours in the major historical
places and ending with the holidays on the 200 nautical miles sea
border. However, achieving higher expectation level in this sector is
conditioned by the multiple efforts to be undertaken by the national and
international consumers of tourist services, in terms of service quality,
transport infrastructure and the behaviour of the tourism businessmen.
Therefore, this paper intends to highlight contemporary approach,

ABSTRACT

This paper has been highlighted the plummeting price of oil that is at
present the most sensational energy story in the world. This research
work outlined the main reasons for the current situation is low demand
of oil as well as concerned companies found it more profitable to extract
oil by unconventional methods. In Bangladesh no changes have been
made in the oil price. By figure, at present (June 2015) BPC
(Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation) is making profit of Tk 13.77 per
liter of Kerosene, Tk 14.68 per liter of Diesel, Tk 19.57 per liter of
Furnace oil and Tk 18.75 per liter of jet fuel oil where the very latest
world crude oil price comes down $ 35.62. The present study is done to
make an overview of the world oil prices in Bangladesh. It will use
secondary data collected mostly from newspaper reports, websites,
magazines, journals, periodic, reviews and various published data
during the year of 2015. This study also investigates the impact of the
sharp fall in oil price to the economy of Bangladesh. In the study, there
is seen negatively correlation of the oil price of the world and that of
Bangladesh. This paper will be useful to the stakeholders, the policy
makers to take proper initiatives for the adjustment of the plummeting
oil price of the world. It may disseminate that the BPC, as the
government-sponsored firm, cannot make maximum profit as like the
Monopoly Company in Bangladesh, so, the retail consumer may be
given the benefits of the adjustment with the sharp oil price fall in the
world.

ABSTRACT

A cottage industry, small scale industry where the creation of products

and services is home based, rather than factory based, provides
promising economic opportunities for the poor people. It can be big deal
for the people belonging to the middle-income group through
employment and income generation schemes all over the world.
Specially, it makes a notable contribution towards economic
development of low income generated and technologically
underdeveloped countries like Bangladesh. In this backdrop, an attempt
was made in the present study to examine the problem and prospects of
the cottage industry in Bangladesh. In this study, both primary and
secondary data for the period 2016 to 2017 were used. A well-structured
questionnaire was developed to interview the respondents. The relevant
data were collected from Kushtia and Jhenaidah districts under Khulna

ABSTRACT
This study investigates the investment behaviour of women investors in
terms of investment avenues and the perception of women investors in
West Bengal. This research also examines the impact of investment
avenues on demographics. Investment behaviour is important for the
future of a people and savings and investment decision may be reliant
on many factors. Women have a tendency to save and invest; but their
attitudes toward investment differ with respect to different
demographical background. The study is based on primary data
obtained through scheduled questionnaires from the selected women
respondents using convenience sampling in West Bengal. In the course
of analysis, frequency percentage, bar charts, test of reliability,
exploratory factor analysis and multiple regression analysis have been
used. The reliability and KMO-Bartlett test results confirm that the data
is reliable as well as suitable for exploratory factor analysis. The factor
analysis test results show that five factors and fifteen variables are
identified out of forty-nine variables. The regression test results
demonstrate that investment avenues in terms of level of awareness,
investment attitude, investment decision, source of information and
source of funds have been affected through the age and education level.
In other words, age and education influences the investment behaviour
of women investors in South Bengal.

India.

ABSTRACT

The present study investigates the disaster affected people as well as the
role of affected community on flood management in West Bengal. Our
state, a part of the Bengal Delta, formed by the Ganga and Padma river
systems, has a history of floods. At present 42.30 per cent of total area
of the state is prone to flood, spread over 110 blocks in 18 districts
(Choudhury et al, 2010). The widest area affected by flood, as recorded
in 1978, is about 30,607 sq km. About 23,970 sq km of area was
devastated by flood in 2000 (Report of Irrigation and Waterways
Department, Govt. of West Bengal). Initially it was thought that
constructing dams would be a great tool to tame river Damodar- ‘The
Sorrow of Bengal.’ Yet it was proved wrong soon. This paper
represents a holistic and integrated approach in the direction of flood
management through highlighting not only on the usual post disaster
response; but also on pre-disaster preventive, mitigation and
preparedness as well, in that way, laying down the Standard Operating
Procedure (SOP) for a Disaster Managers for proper flood management.
The paper also reflects the flood intensity and flood trend in
Udaynarayanpur Block of Damodar river basin. At the same time how
flood carries potential loss and sometimes how it proves to be blessings
for the flood plain areas. This study is based on primary data as well as
secondary data. The primary data has been collected from the basin
dwellers through structured questionnaires and secondary data has been
collected from Sechpatra of Irrigation and Waterways Department,
Govt. Of West Bengal, Government Flood Relief offices, Statistical
hand book of the districts, Economic Review, Human Resource
Development Report, District Census Book etc. Descriptive statistics
indicate that major areas of the Udayanarayanpur block are frequently
affected by flood and more than 80 per cent of the people are affected
by flood every year, also more than one time in a year.

ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of participatory management on job
satisfaction and productivity. The goal of this research is to investigate
the role between participative management, job satisfaction and
productivity. This research explores the existence and scope of
participation in management by the subordinate and employees
improved job satisfaction and increase productivity in an organization.
Specifically participation of employees in decision making improves
employees’ job satisfaction which ultimately increases employees’
productivity both in private and public sectors. Both business and
government leaders and managers agree that participation in
management is an essential ingredient to organizational success,
employee’s job satisfaction and productivity (Voon et al, 2010). This
can be defined as s a positive or pleasing emotional state from the
appraisal of one’s job or experience (Locke, 1976). Data were analyzed
using descriptive statistical method. The finding of this study is that
there is significant positive relationship between participative
management and job satisfaction and productivity. This study suggests
that there is need to change traditional management system, structure

ABSTRACT
Diversification is the strategy for growth where a business ventures into
new product line and or markets. A business cannot survive unless it
grows. A survey of literature on this topic shows that this strategy along
with its impact has been explored by many researchers, the results are
inconsistent and perplexing, it is also noticed that very little work has
been done on Indian context. In India, ITC Ltd can be recognized as one
of the biggest and most successful conglomerates, whose diversification
has been a prime strategy of growth. In the present study, a modest
attempt was made to make a comparative analysis of the impact of
diversification strategy on the association between profit earning
capability of ITC Ltd with its asset management efficiency in the pre
and post-diversification periods. The period of study considered here
was from 1994-1995 to 2013-2014, which was segregated into pre-
diversification and post-diversification period.
