• Lack of investment : Any non-Kashmiri couldn’t purchase land in Kashmir.
No major investment and job creation in last 70 years, just tourism. • Lack of education: Basic laws like ‘Right to education’ were missing. Literacy rate in Kashmir is very low especially amongst girls. • Lack of citizenship: People who moved to Kashmir after 1948 and their next 3 generations can’t be citizens even after being born in Kashmir! • Discrimination: Woman who got married to non-Kashmiri Indian would lose all rights. But if she married a Pakistani, he also gets all Kashmiri rights as hers. • Rampant Corruption: Lack of “Right to information act” meant rampant government corruption. Issues in Kashmir because of article 370 • Terrorism: This cocktail of unemployment, lack of infrastructure, illiteracy and polarized social environment promoted religious extremism and an environment conducive for terrorism.
• Genocide and forced exodus: The terrorism was
responsible for mass killings and forced exodus of around 250K Kashmiri Hindu (religious minority) people in 1989. • More deaths: Terrorism, a direct byproduct of archaic and divisive article 370 has caused deaths of over 40K civilians and security personnel since 1989-2016. A brighter future in works for Kashmir • Kashmir will be in 21st century soon with access to 106 laws and 9 constitutional amendments that are already applicable across rest of India and that were withheld from people of Kashmir by archaic Article 370. New act Benefit to Kashmiris Right to information act Very less governmental corruption Right to education act Education for everyone Child marriage act People can choose their partner. Not just married off in childhood Citizenship act Born in Kashmir means equal rights as everyone else around Minority reservation act Access to education, jobs and role in policy making A brighter future in works for Kashmir • Non-Kashmiris can invest in Kashmir; it means employment generation for youth of Kashmir. This will promote industrial and economic growth while deterring terrorism and violence.
• Judicial reforms will bring gender equality and justice to economically
and socially under privileged classes. Under privileged segments will preferred education, governmental jobs & also participation in decision making process.
• Justice to 20000 Hindu refugees from
west Pakistan who are in their 3rd generation and who were denied of basic rights for last 70 years. • Kashmiri Hindus can go back to their homeland after 30 years. Appendix A: What was Article 370?
