Job Title: ​Education Manager

Employment type: Part-time


Hours: 20 hours/week; expected to work at least one Saturday per month
Hourly: $15.40/hour
Benefits: paid holidays (at rate of 4 hour day)
Other benefits: 24/7 access to studio; free registration for up to 3 classes/workshops each year; flexible
hours (when possible and with ED approval); gas mileage reimbursement for travel between studio and
program locations.

Job Overview
The Education Manager is a new position at Scenic City Clay Arts and is primarily responsible for
overseeing SCCA’s class and workshop schedule. This includes managing and coordinating with
SCCA instructors, who are independent contractors working in the studio to deliver specified instruction
and educational programs. The Education Manager will be the primary point of contact with
Independent Contracted Instructors. The Education Manager will schedule and confirm class/workshop
dates and ensure that the internal calendar remains up-to-date.
The Education Manager will be required to lead educational programs in the studio and at outreach
locations. Working with the Executive Director, the Education Manager will build relationships and
develop programs with/for external groups and organizations, including local schools.
The Education Manager will have assigned studio hours in which they will manage studio operations
activities in coordination with the Studio Manager. This position is expected to work at least one
Saturday a month and will require some hours outside of regular business hours for special events and
programs.

Responsibilities and Duties


The Education Manager will be responsible for:
● Ceramics Instruction
○ Required minimum six hours per week of direct instruction.
■ This may include regular classes, workshops, field trips, outreach activities, or open-studio
instructional assistance.
○ Work closely with Executive Director to identify new audience groups and develop programs to
meet their needs.
○ Increase partnership with Hamilton County Schools by providing assistance to the visual art
teachers in support of: bringing clay arts into their classroom; developing and exploring the use
of clay as a cross-curricular component into Social Studies/ Science/ ELA; and providing
teacher training.
○ Develop programs for corporate training/professional development opportunities using clay
construction as a medium for exploration.
● Instructor Communications and Class Scheduling
○ Planning and leading Instructor meetings twice yearly

○ In collaboration with Instructors, studio members, and SCCA staff, identify areas of growth or
change for class offerings.
○ Scheduling classes and workshops in coordination with Instructors
■ Communicating with Instructors about class information and changes
■ Providing feedback and accountability to instructors for their classes
○ Scheduling classes/workshops and outreach programs with external groups.
■ Education Manager will handle scheduling of any/all school groups for field trips or after
school activities.
○ With Executive Director, recruit, interview and onboard new instructors when needed, with a
specific goal of increasing diversity among our instructors.
○ Share class schedule information and changes immediately with Studio Manager to help ensure
that website and social media postings are accurate and up to date.
● Studio Operations
○ Open/Close studio when scheduled.
○ Ensuring a clean and safe studio environment and assisting studio staff when needed
○ Assist with planning and implementation of special events as needed.
● Volunteer Management​: coordinate with Studio Manager to secure volunteers for classes as
needed

Qualifications
● The Education Manager should have at least 4-years of studio ceramics experience working
directly with clay and clay arts, preferably in a professional or community studio.
● The Education Manager should have at least 2-years of ceramics instruction experience
delivering ceramics education in a formal or informal academic setting.
○ Experience with both adult and youth ages is preferred.
○ Experience working with differently abled groups is a plus.
● Experience managing staff, artists, or volunteers.
● Intermediate understanding of clay, glazes (glaze chemicals), and ceramics equipment including
wheels, kilns, and mixing glazes.
● Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe studio environment.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Proven organizational and planning skills.
● Ability to multitask and be flexible with the workday within a fast-paced, variable environment.
● Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
● Must be a positive advocate for the arts and for Scenic City Clay Arts both in the studio and in
the community.
