RESUMEN
ABSTRACT
This paper aims to present a practical case study in which 5 S techniques are applied, in an
automobile factory plant.
The 5 S technique is a powerfull tool used by companies world wide to improve their results.
They are five principles (Sort, Straighten, Sweep, Systemise and Sustain), which applied along
the time produce significant improvements in operational and financial terms.
This technique is available for all kind of companies, such as production of goods or services,
due to the fact thas these 5 principles are present in all of them. The difference in applying
them, is the level of complexity in each case.

In the first part of this paper a description of Lean Manufacturing and its techniques will be
developed. It will also explained the meaning of each S, its benefits and its contribution to
industry.
In the second part a practical case showing the way these principles are applied in an
automobile plan will be exposed. This practical case will be developed in the external areas of
the plant, which constitutes almost the total industrial estate. It will begin setting the problem,
developing the action plan for implementing 5 S, and finally showing the results obtained.
