I. INTRODUCTION:

What is understanding the self all about?

Understanding the self is all about learning why you make the choices you make. It is a
knowledge or understanding of one’s own capabilities, character, feelings, or motivations.
Learning what shaped you into the person you are today. Sometimes our behaviors cause us
problems. Poor choices in friends or spouse, impulsive, behavior, immaturity in certain situations,
there are hundreds if not thousands of behaviors that may cause a person problem in their day
to day life. Sometimes understanding why, we need the way we do can be very helpful in making
changes to unwanted behaviors. That said knowing why alone does not change anything-
everyone must do the change, but I believe it help us understand where we came from and what
boundaries to set, we do not repeat behaviors that we want to eliminate or modify. It is also a
person’s self- concept is their understanding of who they are and what makes them unique. This
can include the physical health, the competent self, and the inner or psychological self.
Meanwhile, a person’s self-understanding is about knowing what motivates his or her actions.
To attain the insight into your attitude, motives, defenses, reactions, weakness and strengths. It
is also a subjective sense of the self and complex mixture of unconscious and conscious thoughts
altitudes and perception. George Herbert Head said that understanding self represents the sum
total of people’s conscious perception of their identity as distinct from others. It is not a static
phenomenon and change throughout our lives. “The understanding the self is thinking about
what is involved in being? What distinguish you from being an object, an animal or different
person?”. - Richard Stevens
II. A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF YOUR EXPERIENCES DURING THE ACTIVITIES AND
DISCUSSION IN CLASS.

There is nothing more exciting and enlightening as I participating during the discussion
in this subject. I have gained more knowledge about self. I know that there are many aspects
of life which is physical life, social life and the competent self. I remember my first report or
my first presentation about Erogenous Zones, I feel nervous but I finally did it and that was
my best moment. I realized that the key to presenting with people is not getting their
attention just by visual appeal. You need to let your heart pour out so that you can captivate
their hearts. Another exciting moment in this subject is by sharing problems. I know also the
self-learning gives me ability to identify my problems and quickly look for effective solution
on my own. I get to learn how to actively look for solution instead of having solutions brought
to me. Moreover, there is no pressure to learn the required content with in a certain time.
When learning the subject there are important skills that I can apply anywhere. Finally, as I
learned this subject, I know how to stick a plan until I achieve my goals.
III. WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT I LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF FROM THE TOPICS AND
UNDERSTANDING THE SELF?

We all have our own journeys to live out and we are the only one who end up living
and dealing with the things that happen to us. I believe that I can always be learning from
others no matter who we are. Finding out how there can be a good exchange of life between
others and myself. I encounter and making people more equal rather than living through
hierarchy. I have learned that the more I’ve tried to give advice or understand a situation
someone the more I realized. I just don’t know the full picture or that something is a lot
deeper than I anticipated. I learned also what is self-awareness is important. It is important
because when we have a better understanding of ourselves, we are able to experience
ourselves as unique individuals. We are then empowered to make changes and to build our
areas of strength as well as identify areas where we would like to make improvements.
IV. HOW TO I UNDERSTAND MYSELF “WHO AM I”

Who I am? I can say that I am responsible mother to my son and a good wife to my
husband, a hardworking student at the age of 39 I tried to pursue my career. It is difficult to do
same things as a mother and students but I tried my best to do same way. I enjoy my time in
school even though I am old enough but I tried to come along with my classmates. People say I’m
naturally quite this is partially true, while I may come out shy and reserved to people who don’t
know me, I’m actually quite talkative, but when a person approaches me, I’m a very friendly, I
am very loyal to the people in my inner circle. Loyalty is probably my biggest virtue. I give it to
the fullest and also expect the same from people I give it to. I show utmost care and love to the
people that matter to me. I will do anything in my power to keep them happy. I am also slow
anger and can tolerate whichever is thrown at me for sometimes. I tend to overlook the first
instance of misbehavior. However, if the person is persistent with it then I give them a piece of
mind and avoid them entirely. I’m also very funny to people who have knack for intelligent
humor. I go out once in a while with my friends and classmates to have some good time but I find
pleasure in staying home taking care of my son. Right now, my goal in life is to strive to finish my
studies because I know it will help me a lot to my future and to the future of my son. I have had
bad experience in my life too but this is exactly what made me the way I am now today, grateful,
full of love with a desire to study well because it will help me become a successful person in
future and have a high quality of life. I feel even more responsible for what I do and where I go.
With all I ready have, I know that I am on the right path and I will do my best to inspire others to
live the way they feel like living as well.
V. CONCLUSION

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTANDING MYSELF

It is important to understand self because with that knowledge there are comes
understanding people in general. Not everybody thinks the same way as you. Not everybody
processes emotions and different kind of stimuli as you. But we are all humans. You can’t
understand others if you don’t understand yourself first. The first step to gaining a good
understanding of our self is to identify our values and strength. Values reveals themselves when
we feel strongly about certain things and our strength are evinced in activities which we are
naturally drawn towards excel in add feel good about. To gain a better sense of self-awareness
examine and reflect on your thoughts and actions in the past, although don’t forget to observe
your behavior in the present. It can also be useful to enlist the help of family and friends in order
to better understand where your strength lie. “The Tao Ching says” knowing, yourself is true
wisdom, mastering other is strength, mastering yourself is true power. If you realize that you
have enough, you are truly rich”.
