Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

I. OBJECTIVES

The students should be able to:

a. Define the basic geometric ideas.

b. Describe the different geometric ideas that can be seen around them.
c. Understand the whole concept of basic geometric ideas.

Valuing:
Appreciation of different geometric ideas around us
III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Prayer

Please all stand for our prayer.

Good morning, teacher!
Good morning, class!

2. Checking of Attendance
The class monitor will answer.
Is there any absent for today?

B. Developmental Activities

1. Review

Directions: Fill in the blanks. Choose the

correct answer inside the box.

Solid Geometry Metron

Geo Geometry
Euclidian Geometry Plane Geometry

1-2. Geometry comes from the Greek Geo and Metron

words _____ which means earth and
__________ which means measurement.

3. __________ is a branch of mathematics Geometry

concerned with questions of shape, size,
relative position of figures, and the
properties of space.

4. __________ is about flat shapes like Plane Geometry

lines, circles and triangles.

5.__________ is about solid (3- Solid Geometry

dimensional) shapes like spheres and
cubes.

2. Motivation

You will be grouped into two.

Group 1 please go to the left side of the
room, Group 2 kindly proceed to the right
side of the room. Each group will be given
a cartolina. What you are going to do is to
draw anything that you can see inside a
grade 4 room. I will give you 5 minutes to
finish it.
Okay class, time’s up, keep your output,
arrange your chairs and stay with your
groupmates.
C. Lesson Proper

The activity you have done is

related to our topic. And our topic for today
is about The Basic Geometric Ideas.

Point- represented by a dot, and named

using capital letter.

Line- set of points extending in both

directions without an end. Arrows are used
to represent its infinity. It is named using
two points that are lying on it.

Line Segment- a part of a line that has two

endpoints.

Ray- a part of a line with an endpoint and

extends in only one direction. It is named
by starting on the endpoint and another
point lying on the line that contains it.

Angle- two rays are joined and extended

from one common endpoint. It can be
named by its angle, or by the points that are
lying on its rays, and it is represented by a
capital letter.

D. Generalization:

Okay class; let’s see if you really

understand our topic for today. Let’s have a
group quiz bee. A group representative will
stand in front; I will repeat the question
twice before you write your answer and
only have five seconds to answer it. This is
best of three; the group who will win will
have a reward. No coaching please. Let’s
start.

1. It is a part of a line with an endpoint

and extends in only one direction. Ray

2. It is a part of a line that has two

endpoints. Line Segment

3. It is named using a capital letter. Point

4. It is use to represent the infinity of a

line. Arrow

5. It is formed when two rays are

joined and extended from one
common endpoint. Angle
IV: Application:

Now class, get your output from our

previous activity. I want you to identify the
basic geometric ideas that you can see on
your output and afterwards a group
representative will explain it in front. I will
give you three minutes to finish that.
Understand?
Yes teacher.
Okay, time’s up, Group 1and 2 kindly post
your work in front. A group representative will post their
work.
Thank you.

Groups 1, kindly explain your work.

A group representative will explain their
work.
Thank you!

Group 2, kindly explain your work.

A group representative will explain their
work.
Thank you!

V. Evaluation:

I will divide the class into two groups, Group 1 will stay at the right side of the
room, while Group 2 will stay at the left side of the room, each group will be given a
piece of paper where you will answer the given activity, after 5 minutes we will compare
your answers. Same answers will be cancelled and each unique answer is equivalent to 5
points. The winning group will receive a reward.
