Resolve the Microsoft Office Error Code 1401, 1402 and

1406:

Microsoft Office is the software which is used in schools, hospitals,


institutions, offices and businesses. This software is developed by
Microsoft and it is consist of many applications like MS Word, MS Excel,
MS PowerPoint, and MS Publisher etc. Every application has its unique
feature. You can make resumes, charts, calendars, and letters etc. in
MS Office. It is very easy to install MS Office via
www.office.com/setup. But sometimes while installing you face some
errors like 1401, 1402 and 1406.

Symptom of Microsoft Office Error Code 1401, 1402 and 1406 are as
follows:

This error messages comes when, during installation or at the end of


the installation. Error 1401 comes when Office setup cannot create
Registry Key. Error 1402 comes when Office setup cannot open Registry
Key. Error 1406 comes when Office setup cannot write the value to the
Registry Key. When you complete the process of installation, this error
message comes when you try to run the Office programs.

Solution to fix Error Code 1401, 1402, and 1406:


To solve this error use one of the following method.

Method 1:

For the everyone group, set the permission of the registry sub keys
which are listed in the error message to Full Control. You can also do
this by restore security setting to the default setting.

Method 2:

To avoid this error message, disable the third party application like
disable webroot spysweeper. For this, you have to right click the
Webroot Spysweeper icon which is located in the notification area.
Then left click the shut down option. After this in the error dialogue
box, click on Retry. When the installation of Office setup complete,
then restart the computer. Now you can re-enable Webroot
Spysweeper.
Method 3:

First of all take the computer system into a clean boot state. After this,
run the Office setup to disable third party application because third
party application denies access to the registry sub key. If you disable
this application it will no longer deny access.

Method 4:

In some of the cases, during the activation process the message comes
that the license file is corrupted. If this message comes you cannot
resolve the error by removing and reinstalling the office product. And
also the license file cannot be overwritten. So you have to delete the
license file manually. To delete the license file first you have to login to
the computer by using the administrator user account, then start
Microsoft Window Explorer. In the Organize menu click on Folder and
Search Option. Then click on the View Tab. In the Hidden Files and
Folders, click on the Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives. Then clear
the Hide Extensions for Known File Types and also click to clear the
Hide protected Operating system file. Then in the warning dialogue
box, click on Yes. After this open the folder i.e. C:\Users\All
Users\Microsoft\Office\Data\. In case if you are running 2007, right
click on Opa12.dat, if you are running Office 2003 then right click on
Data.dat, after this click on Properties. At this point click on
Security>Advanced>Permission tab. Now select everyone in the
Permission Entries Lists, and then click on Edit option. Select Full
Control option. At the end click OK four times. To resolve this issue,
delete .dat files from the folder and restart the office program.
