A 1 kg of gas, initially at 100 𝐶, is contained in a piston–cylinder assembly at a
pressure of 1.014 bar. The gas undergoes a process, during which the piston moves
freely in the cylinder and the volume changes from 0.0012 m3 to 1.8 m3 (a constant
pressure process). Heat is being added to the system from a heat source (T = 374
K) during this internally reversible process, while maintaining constant pressure.
The initial and the final specific entropy (s) of the gas are 1.3200 kJ/kg and 7.5549
kJ/kg, respectively.
b) Write down all the assumptions that you will need to evaluate the given process
(2 Marks).
c) Sketch the initial and the final states of the given process, and indicate known
and unknown parameters of each state (3 Marks).
