BUSINESS SENTIMENT SURVEY

HORSHAM – JULY 2019

S urvey Methodology

This survey was designed and executed to capture business responses within the Horsham region.

Opening Thursday 25 July 2019 and closing Sunday 18 August 2019 the survey questionnaire was
distributed to various business networks in Horsham.

The survey is anonymous and confidential.

The questions were short and simple and it takes on average 2-3 minutes to complete.

The survey’s focus is on business confidence and support requirements with the intention to provide
a tool to allow comparisons of results within and across industry types, along with identifying
demand for business support.

Many similar surveys provide extensive commentary on their findings. It is our intention to create a
report that is easy to read and is not too overwhelming for the reader.

Business Horsham and Watts Price Accountants would like to thank all participants for their kind
support of this survey. A special thanks to Allison Roberts for managing the data collection from

The largest survey group was the Retail Trade
Wholesale Trade 1.1%
group which accounted for 42.0% of the
responses. Of the Retailers 37.8% believed Retail Trade 42.0%
that the outlook in their industry would Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing 4.5%
improve over the next 6 months. Another
54% believed that the outlook in their Accommodation & Food Services 10.2%
industry would be unchanged over the next 6 Mining 1.1%
months.
Manufacturing 11.4%
The second largest group of respondents Information Media & Telecommunications 1.1%
were in the Manufacturing group. Of these
70.0% believed that the outlook in their Financial and Insurance Services 6.8%
industry would improve over the next 6 Rental, Hiring and Real Estate Services 1.1%
months.

group 55.6% believed that the outlook in
their industry would improve over the next 6 Public Admin & Safety 1.1%

Of those respondents with less than 5 FTE employees 42.6% believed that the outlook in their
industry would improve over the next 6 months. Those with more than 5 employees was 55.0%!

Of the respondents in this survey a healthy 48.3% believed that the outlook in their industry would
improve over the next 6 months.

Another 44.8% of respondents reported that the outlook in their industry would remain unchanged
over the next 6 months.

The above table illustrates the percentage of internet sales by industry

In regard to the question “approximately, what percentage of your business sales/trading/services are
completed online?” we see that 78.1% of respondents generate less than 20% of their revenue from
online revenue.

Of those generating less than 20% of revenue from online activity we note that 48.5% believe that the
outlook in their industry would improve over the next 6 months while 45.6% believe it will be
unchanged.

that the outlook in their industry would improve 21-50%
over the next 6 months while 38.9% believe it will 51-70%
