How to Drop a Student

Multi Purpose Roster

Overview:
When you have a student on your roster who does not show up the first week of classes, or when you have a
student who stops attending, you can use the Multi Purpose Roster to drop the student. For more on
attendance and drop policies, please see your college website. Once you’ve logged into InSite and selecting
the Classes, choose the correct section, select the Grading tab, and then the Final Grades tab. (This is the
same place you will submit grades.) For detailed instructions, follow along below.

NOTE: The “Never Attended” and “Last Date of Attendance” fields demonstrated here remain available
throughout the term, but are ignored after the drop deadlines for your section. If you enter data into these
fields after the drop deadlines, students will continue to appear on your roster until they drop the class
themselves.

Also, dropping students using the roster is not immediate. It may take up to 2 hours for the student to be
officially dropped from your class.

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Log into the InSite app using your mobile device or m.4cd.edu using your web browser.

2. Once logged into InSite, click the red “Classes” tile and access the Multi-Purpose Roster from the
menu.
3. Click on the section you wish to drop a student from:

4. The default view is your class roster. To drop a student, click the “Grading” tab (between “Roster” and
“Permissions”). The default grading view is set to “Overview,” which is a view of your grade roster. To
drop students, select “Final Grade” to edit your grade roster.

5. This will give you a menu with the options to enter information under “Never Attended,” “Last Date of
Attendance,” “Final Grade,” and “Expiration Date.”

6. For any student that did not show up on the first day of class, and that you wish to drop, check the box
under “Never Attended.”

NOTE: Students can be dropped using the “Never Attended” box until the last day to receive a
refund.

7. For any student that has stopped attending your class, and that you wish to drop, enter the last date
that the student participated in class under “Last Date of Attendance.”

NOTE: Students can be dropped using the “Last Date of Attendance” until the last day to drop with a
W.

8. If you mark the “Never Attended” box or enter a “Last Date of Attendance”, do not enter a grade.

9. The last day to receive a refund and the last day to drop with a W are administrative deadlines. The
roster will allow you to enter both of these options after those dates, but the students will not be
dropped from your roster if the deadline has passed.

All restrictions and deadline dates for dropping students, census, etc., can be viewed by clicking
“Deadline Dates” from the class overview menu.

10. The system saves your entries automatically (there is no “submit” function). Simply click back to the
Roster tab when done. (Note that this does not replace the census roster. An online census roster is
not yet available.)

11. As noted at the beginning of these instructions, it may take up to 2 hours for dropped students to be
removed from your roster. Once removed, dropped students can be viewed by selecting the Dropped
Students link on the main Roster tab.

12. For questions about the grading process or deadlines, please contact your campus Admissions &
Records Office.
