 Dialogue between two friends about
“How to improve communication skills?”

(Ehsan and Basim are two college best friends. They completed their studies
and never met again. Ehsan used to go in a snooker club and on Monday
Basim came there. Ehsan was standing in front and tuck shop and Basim came
from back side.)

Basim: Assalam-o-Alikum!
(Ehsan looking backwards and reply.)
Ehsan: Wa-Alikum Assalam!
(Both hug each other.)
Ehsan: How are you? Long-time no see? Where were you
been?
Basim: I got stuck in a busy routine and don’t have any
time for other things.
(Ehsan calls “Chotu” guy who works in tuck shop of snooker club.)
Ehsan: Chotu bring two Sting immediately.
Chotu: Ok sir! In just a minute.
Ehsan: So what are you doing now a days?
Basim: I am working as senior software developer in
AlphaTech. What’s about you?
Ehsan: Still I’m doing nothing looking for a job. I got
a call letter from LilSolution and have an interview
call on next month.
(Chotu came with bottles and put bottles in their hands.)
Ehsan: Bro, suggest me anything for my interview
because I’m very nervous and got rejected by many
companies due to confidence. I got nervous during the
interviews.
Basim: My suggestion is you should have good knowledge
of your chosen field and improve your communication
skills. Your communication skills play a significant
role while you are interviewed for a job. Good
communication saves time and energy.
(Taking a sip of cold drink.)
Basim: In fact, the way you communicate helps you in
boosting what you mentioned on your resume.
Communication skills are often reported to be missing
from job candidates.
Ehsan: Well, I have improved skills regarding my field
but how can I improve my communication skills in that
short period? My interview is on next month and I only
have 27 days to improve my communication skills. I’m so
disappointed.
Basim: Nah! You don’t have to be disappointed. I’ll
tell you some tips by which you can improve your
communication skills and they are very effective.
Ehsan: Ohh! Yes tell me.
Basim: You can read books, magazine articles or learn from
successful communicators around you to improve your
vocabulary. Use simple, straightforward language. Talk with
peoples in English and take feedback at the spot.
Ehsan: Hmmm!
Basim: After you have listened, take time and think in your
head what you want to say. You can also watch English movies
and video content to improve your listening.
Ehsan: How can I improve my communication skills by
watching English movies? Is this some kind of joke or
you suggest to me?
Basim: By watching movies in the English language your
listening capability will increase and you will be able
to listen to a person live and understand what they
want to say.
Ehsan: Ohh I see!
Basim: Talking with people will increase your talking
ability and you can ask them to give on spot feedback
that will help to change your errors while speaking
English. 27 days are enough to learn the English
language. I also improve my communication skills in
just 20 days but you have to pay time and attention to
achieve this goal.
Ehsan: Bro, I will try my best and I’ll give time and
attention this time.
Basim: Insha’Allah you will be succeeded this time. You
just need to pay some attention and everything will be
OK. You will need to communicate well during your
interview if you are to get the job you want.
Basim: Let me add a thing “Whether speaking to a crowd
or single person, maintaining eye contact builds
credibility and show that you care about your
listener”.
Ehsan: Well, this is the toughest job for me I can’t do
this. I can’t maintain eye contact and become nervous
by this act.
Basim: As I already told you maintaining eye contact
builds credibility and show that you care about the
listener. You can also make eye contact by shaking a
hand and smile warmly. Try to make a true connection by
projecting confidence. Try to make eye contact while
they are talking, it will help you to make eye contact
with interviewer. Don’t stare, try to maintain eye
contact in natural and friendly manners.
(Basim’s phone rang and her mother asks him to come home immediately as
his father's health had suddenly become bad.)
Basim: Ok, brother, I have to leave now because my
father got ill and I have to take him to the hospital.
If you follow my advice, your English will improve
steadily.
Ehsan: Insha’Allah I will follow your advice and thanks
for helping me, See you later. “May Allah grant good
health to your father”.
Basim: Aameen!
