I. Traffic Volume Count Survey (Linao-Carig Road - Maharlika Highway)

II. Objectives:
 To conduct manual traffic volume count at the junction of Linao-Carig
Road and Maharlika Highway
 To determine the total volume of traffic entering the junction from all
directions.
 To analyze and interpret the peak hour volume.

III. Description of the Survey Area

The junction is located at the intersection of Linao-Carig Road and
Maharlika Highway. Linao-Carig Road has two lanes on both directions which
can be considered as state highway while Maharlika Highway is a two-way
national highway road.
Six (6) movements were observed for the traffic count, these are: 1. From
southbound to northbound; 2. From southbound to westbound; 3. From
northbound to westbound; 4. From northbound to southbound; 5. From westbound
to northbound; 6. From westbound to southbound. Moreover, the survey was
conducted on a Friday morning, September 6, 2019, from 9:20am – 10:20am
under a fair weather condition.

IV. Method of Data Collection

Manual traffic count was used to tally the number of vehicles passing
through the survey area. One (1) surveyor was assigned to record the vehicular
volume for each movement except for movements 2 and 6 which have only one
(1) surveyor assigned for each due to the little volume of vehicles passing through
these directions. The watches of the surveyors were synchronized and a time
keeper was assigned to make sure that the 15-minute interval was strictly
observed.

V. Output

The figure below shows the distribution of vehicles per type for the 1-hour
survey. Since the study area is a public transport route and also near the Cagayan
State University, Carig Campus and Regional Offices, tricycle, motorcycle and
car group was recorded as the most frequent vehicle type that passed through the
survey area with 20%, 17% and also 17% of the total volume, respectively.
Trucks, jeepneys, pick-ups, and vans was recorded to be 4%, 1%, 4% and 4% of
the total volume. The total volume recorded was 2975 vehicles.

The directional distribution of traffic flow of each bound (in percentage)

of the intersection during 9:20am-10:20am is presented in figure shown below.
The highest volume for the 1-hr survey period is Movement 4 with 1006 veh/hr.
During the one (1) hour period, more traffic is directed to North Bound from
South Bound.

VI. Analysis

Based on the data gathered through manual traffic volume count

conducted at the survey area, the majority of vehicles that travels along the
Maharlika Highway were tricycles, followed by cars/suv and motorcycles.

The traffic volume from southbound to northbound is 935 veh/hr,

southbound to westbound is 55 veh/hr, northbound to westbound is 463 veh/hr,
northbound to southbound is 1006 veh/hr, westbound to northbound is 448
veh/hr, and westbound to southbound is 68 veh/hr.

Peak hour volume for the one hour survey period was recorded between
9:20am - 9:35am from the following movements.
