MULTIVERSE, SPACE AND QUANTUM PHYSICS

Being the most superior creature in the world has pride to it. But the question that has
troubled me since last 5 years is that: Are we really alone in this universe? Are we really the
most superior? The universe is an expanding region where celestial objects like stars, suns,
pulsars, black holes exists together. Each having different properties like an eclectic mixture
of nature’s best elements. What if it also has similar mixture of life throughout space?
We all might have surely heard about this equation called the Schrodinger equation at
some point of time in our lives. It laid the foundation for quantum physics. Many phenomena
occurring in the atomic scale and its effects on the macro level can be understood with the
help of quantum physics. It has application in computers as quantum bits, microscopy as
STM (scanning tunnelling microscope) and many more. Surprisingly, it also makes a valid
point that we live in a multiverse and not a universe.
The position of an electron cannot be pointed out easily. According to Heisenberg’s
Principle, it can be anywhere around the nucleus which was showed as a cloud. Schrodinger
equation helps to trace the probability density of that electron. It can describe any electron
with a certain energy E in a probability wave. The question which arises is that if electron is
not at a particular place, why are the molecules stable? Why isn’t it a world of pandemonium
with no electron at a particular place?
The answer to this was coined recently- “Quantum Darwinism”. It was observed that
when we try to measure the position of electron, the probability wave interacts with the
surroundings and the surroundings forces it to choose a particular position. Hence, the wave
collapses to a single value. A theory was proposed pointing the analogy between the
phenomenon of collapsing of wave to particular value and the theory of natural selection by
Charles Darwin. It was said that emergence of the electron from quantum world to classical
world was like ‘the survival of the fittest’.
This theory also suggests that the whole world, in fact the whole universe actually
came out of quantum world. It also supports the theory of big bang i.e. emergence and
expansion of universe from a point by release in tremendous amount of energy. The question
which still lingers is what has this to do with the existence of multiverses? We must not
forget that before collapsing to a single value, the wave had high energy because of more
possibilities, which have dropped to one now, so what about the extra energy?
An electron cannot have random amount of energy. According to the Bohr’s theory,
they have discrete quantised energy states. They have certain energies based on the orbital
they are in. In sense, the energy depends on the orbital number(n). Hence, the only way we
can explain the conservation of energy is that it has been converted to some other form. To
augment the logic, a theory suggests that when the wave collapses, the possibilities other than
the occurred value must exist somewhere else. Hence, the theory says that other realities or
universes must exists if the collapsing phenomenon does occur, which it does. Hence, it
doesn’t violate the law of conservation of energy.
To explain in a better way, consider this example. If on our earth, you just got lucky
during an accident, in the other realities, you might be probably dead. It might sound very
vague and bizarre but it does explain the existence of multiverse with proper back up
provided by the Schrodinger equation. This is a viable topic for further research on which
personally I am working.
If multiverse really exists, we might also be able to unfold the ways of entering them.
What if we are able to calculate the probability where the places exist? If the energies are
considered for the different possibilities, depending upon the energy adjacent to that of
collapsed value, we might be able to predict the “entry point” -if we say so.
Finally, multiverse or universe, we will be able to understand only with lot of trials
and failures. But we simply cannot neglect the fact that just because we do not see anything,
it isn’t there.
