STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

INTRODUCTION

My name is Kiranjeet Kaur. I was born in Ferozepur. I am highly determined and disciplined person, when I
completed my 12th we had a career counseling fair at our school. The counselor asked me my area of interest
and I told him that I am very fascinated about hotel and restaurants.Upon hearing this my father appreciated me
as I was having good communication skills and managing affairs.

As per my qualification, I have done my secondary education from PSEB board in year 2016 with 91.3% and
senior secondary education from CBSE in year 2018 with 84.2 %. After my senior secondary education, then I
prepared myself for IELTS as that was mandatory to get admission over there and appeared my exam in 14 FEB
2019 and scored 6 Band. Then I searched about some famous universities for my course and after proper
analysis and comparison finally I have selected University of West London and I have selected BA
(Hons) Travel and Tourism Management.

REASON TO CHOOSE THIS COURSE

This course is related to my previous study. I have selected this course because I want to make my career in it
and I have my deep interest in this course. As it’s a vast, dynamic, and growing industry, provides a number of
job opportunities to those who enjoy working with people. This course has a great demand and scope according
to the world travel and tourism council. Travel and tourism accounts for 8% of the world`s job and has the
highest potential for growth of any industry. This program provides hands-on learning and will prepare me to
work in any facet of the industry including foodservice, lodging, and tourism. This Course will teach me
technical skills with general skills such as organizational, problem-solving, communication, leadership and
team work.

And I want to get practical knowledge of this field and want to be professional in this field. Moreover, with
globalization gaining acceptance with more and more countries, the hotel management industry is truly
becoming global. As hotel chain owners are opening new hotels in various big and small cities, and countries
and it has huge requirement for trained professionals. After completion of my study I will be having the skills
required to effectively lead, supervise, and manage teams of people. This course will provide me the knowledge
and skills of tourism & hotel management. I want to get the practical knowledge about hotel operational skills,
management practices in the hospitality industry and the skills needed for employment in a dynamic and
competitive hotel and tourism environment.

Why study in United Kingdom - Comparison of similar courses overseas and India
No doubt the Indian educational provider facilitates recognized degree qualification but for me the prime reason
why I do not want to pursue this program in my home country is that not even a single famous institute like
offers specialization at bachelor degree level. Private universities in India like Chandigarh University provide
degrees like Tourism and Hospitality Management and MSC in Hotel and Hospitality Management, Manipal
university again is providing degree in hospitality and tourism management which indeed covers the same
holistic study that I have already undertaken. None of the universities offer specialized subject study for a
student to excel in one particular arena. Also, if speaking about the implication of the knowledge earned these
universities are lacking industrial connectivity which do not bring the platform to students to put their skills in
operations by getting the real feel of the working sectors. Specialization in my opinion helps a person to focus
his or her career in one direction. Studying abroad will allow me to explore abundant and wide avenues
approachable for me.

UK is the most-preferred destination in terms of education amongst international students because of its
academic reputation and the cultural diversity it possesses. UK qualifications are recognized worldwide by
employers and leading educational institutions. The living standard is comparatively higher than the other
nations. Moreover, living expenses and tuition costs are considerably lower. Students can work while they
study, making it feasible to gain work experience and to manage their expenses during the stay. UK is at the
forefront of new technology and innovations making it beneficial for the students to take advantage of the
impressive technology and research resources. UK provides a safe and cordial atmosphere apt for students to
learn and travel. London is the capital and most popular city of UK. It has been named as the world’s most
livable city as well as the QS World University Rankings listed London as one of the leading student city.
Moreover, tourist attractions there are worth visit and the landscape beauty left me spellbound. People are warm
and friendly; the atmosphere is lively and it's easy to get around. The accommodation options are easily
accessible in London and at lower rates than other cities, making it much student-friendly city. Having a
globally recognized UK education allows me to open my wings to explore the world with confidence to fulfill
my career goals.

Why I have selected University of West London over other providers

The University of West London is highly recognized in the hospitality sector. This university holds for me great
career opportunities around the world upon graduation and to get a real hands-on knowledge and experience
within the hospitality business and combines practical learning within a simulated hotel environment with
academic management studies. The courses incorporate industry placement, and this is for me best hands-on
experience. Industry placements also provide an invaluable opportunity to meet potential employers and gain
solid employment experience to add to my resume. It is the only course of its kind in London providing a
unique qualification that wills enhance career opportunities. As well as, this university provide management
career that allows rapid employee development, has scope for travel, is fast-paced and people orientated, then
this is the career for me. I have checked for other course providers as well likewise I did checked for University
of Huddersfield https://courses.hud.ac.uk/full-time/undergraduate/travel-and-tourism-management-ba-hons &
Manchester Metropolitan University https://www2.mmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/ba-tourism-
management/ but UWL is second to none. As it is not only about quality study experience but also toward
graduate support, career placement, industry placement, brand value, fee structure, alumni mentoring program
(great opportunity to connect and get a job ready environment). At UWL, I will be able to devote my entire year
to the coursework, 3rd semester towards industry placement and into my last semester an independent business
project. The internship embedded in the course will give me a platform to perform and put my skills to
operation. The degree course will help me develop my skills in service quality and marketing management. This
will help students to gain work experience with an industry which will further helps students to gain better jobs.
In terms of tuition cost it is £ 12,500 for my yearly course. Having a globally recognized UK education allows
me to open my wings to explore the world with confidence to fulfill my career goals.

Future Expectation of Salary

There is no doubt that studying in UK will be more worth than its investment. And it can be proved with
average salaries with degree from my home country and with United Kingdom degree. As Travel and Tourism
Management is a very broaden field having different professions and each profession has different salaries but
on average, a fresher with Bachelor’s degree can earn Rs 2,00,000 to 2,40,000 lakh per annum which is
equivalent to GBP £ 2293 – £ 2752 per year after graduating with UK degree, while working with reputed
companies such as Hilton Worldwide, Hyatt, Intercontinental Hotel Groups, Marriot International, Accor etc.

Tourism management degree can lead to a range of exciting careers, both in the UK and overseas. It helps
people design their dream holidays, show people incredible attractions, or inspire people to visit a particular
place. My skills will suit roles with airlines, travel companies like AirBnB, tour operators, visitor attractions,
resorts and destination marketing organizations. I could also focus on emerging areas such as ecotourism, or
explore how to make destinations work for locals as well as tourists. There are excellent opportunities for travel.
Spending a year on a placement or studying overseas could help me make valuable international connections.

Once you graduate you could go on to work in:

 Tour operating
 Hotel and resort management
