Language Classroom for Announcement Material

a. Opening
- Assalamu’alaikum wr.wb
- Good morning class, how are you?
- Before we start our activity today, the representative of you please lead for praying
and greeting!
- Well, I am going to check your attendence list. So, if I call your name please say
present.
- What have we learn in the previous meeting?
- When you go to some public places, such as airport, train station, theater, or school,
have you ever heard something from the information center? What did the speaker
inform you?
- So, I have several recordings of the information that are usually heard in the public
places and the picture of places where you usually can hear them. Now, I want you to
match the picture of place to the recordings. I have five pictures of public places. Can
you tell me the names? (showing the pictures) Now listen to the audio then say in
which place you will probably hear them. Are you ready?
- Oke, we strart from the first recording, (listening to the recording) where do you hear
that information?
- So, what do we call those information?
- That’s right, so today we are going to learn about announcement.
- The goal of this lesson is you are able to identify the function, text structure, and
language features of announcement and also you are able to arrange your own
announcement text.
- The score will be taken during teaching learning process and the task that will be
given later.
b. While Activity
- I’m sure that you are often listened to the school announcement, can you tell us what
was the announcement about?
- So, what is the announcement?
- What about the function of announcement?
- Well, now I want you to arrange the jumble sentences to be a good announcement text
based on what you hear from the recording.
- So, anyone of you can help me to spread the paper? (jumble sentences)
- Have you all got the paper?
- In the paper you see some sentences with the blank brackets. So, you have to arrange
the sentences into a proper order by writing a number on the blank brackets according
to the information you have heard in the recording.
- Are you ready?
- Well, I need two students to arrange the sentence in the blackboard by using the
media that have already been prepared.
- Is this arrangement right?
- Can anyone of you read the announcement like the real announcer?
- So, now check your answer. Is your answer right?
- So, because it is a text and a text must have a structure. So, can you guess what is the
structure of announcement text?
- What word that indicate the opening?
- What does exist in the content?
- What word that indicate the closing?
- Well, what about the language features is that announcement text used?
- So far, is there any question?
- If there is no any question, I want you to read the book page 118.
- I’ll give you time for 5 minutes to read it.
- Oke, time is up. After you read the announcement text and hear the announcement, is
there any differentiation between the spoken announcement and the written
announcement?
- Now, I want you to make a draft of announcement text consists of topic, opening,
content, and closing. For the topic you can choose one of these topics (theater club
registration, study tour, heroes’ day ceremony, OSIS meeting, or poster competition)
c. Closing
- Who wants to conclude our material today?
- Well, for next meeting we are going to make the draft you have done become an
announcement text.
- So before we close the material today, please the chief of the class lead for praying.
- Thank you very much for your participation, you did a great job today. I’m very
happy with your activity in the class, how about you?
