ANALYSIS AGGRESSION

After we discuss from the material analyze as follows:

1) Definition of Aggression
Aggressive behavior is behavior intended to hurt someone intentionally, both physically and
verbally (injury, pain, suffering, damage, destruction).
So, aggression is any intentional loss, both physically and verbally as a result of aggressive
behavior.

2) Causes of Aggression
The causes of aggression cover a broad spectrum, ranging from those that have biological or
instinctive emphasis to those that describe aggression as socially learned behavior.

3) Aggressive Behavioral Theory

 Displacement Theory
Aggression is explained as an instinct directed externally to others in a process called
displacement
 Catharsis Theory
Aggression that is not channeled to specific people or groups can be expressed
indirectly through socially acceptable activities, such as sports and competition, in a
process called catharsis.
 Biological and Instinctive Theories (by ethologists)
Aggression is an innate instinct that is common to humans. This is recognized by a
number of ethologists who study animal behavior in their natural environment.

4) The perspective of aggression as an instinct

There are two different:
 Aggression develops instinctively → with or without outside provocation, as a result
violent behavior can occur.
 Aggression develops spontaneously → not spontaneously and without outside
provocation

5) Social Learning Theory

In contrast to instinct theories, social learning theories view aggression as a learned
behavior. Social learning theory is also called observational learning theory which
implies that social learning is learning that is done when someone observes and imitates
the behavior of others. According to social learning theory, learning is a triangular
interaction that is mutually influential and binding between the environment, personal
factors and behaviors that include cognitive processes of learning.
