HEALTHY FOOD
A. Eating is fun, especially when you are hungry. Most people have their favourite food. Some
people enjoy eating sweet things like cakes, chocolates and ice cream. Other people enjoy
savoury kinds of food like cheese and meet. Enjoying eating is our body’s way of making sure
that it gets the things it needs to work properly,
B. Food helps us to keep warm, gives us energy to walk, talk, run and do all the other things we
do. It helps us to grow and stay healthy.
C. Vitamins also help us to be healthy. Scientists name vitamins after the letters of the alphabet.
All of them are very important, for example, vitamin C keeps our skin and gums healthy. It is
found in fresh fruit and green vegetables, such as oranges, blackcurrants, lettuce. Brussels
sprouts and spinach also contain a lot of vitamin C.
D. Vitamin D helps our bones to grow strong and hard, and we are able to make it for ourselves
if our skin gets enough sunlight. But we can also get vitamin D if we eat fish, milk, butter and
cheese. Some people buy pills or tablets containing vitamins. But most of us get more than
enough of them from our food.

If there is not enough information to answer RIGHT or WRONG, choose DOESN’T SAY
When I was young, my parents moved from California to Illinois with me and my two sisters. We all helped
my mother pack everything from our old house into boxes. Inside three of the boxes were my
grandmother’s special cups, bowls and plates. They were special because my grandmother, a clever artist,
painted them herself with a lovely pattern of blue flowers.
Sadly, one of those three boxes was lost. We never got the cups, but the plates and bowls arrived safely.
We used them on special days in the year, like birthdays .We remembered those cups and were sad that
we did not have them anymore.
Ten years later, I decided to go to University in California. In my first summer there, a friend asked me to
spend a day at antique market with her. At first I did not want to go, but I finally agreed and we had a great
day there looking around. There were many old and interesting things for sale. We were just leaving when I
saw a woman selling twelve beautiful cups with a pattern of blue flowers. I looked closely and saw they
were my grandmother’s cups!!!
