1.0 Purpose

1.1 The purpose of these work instructions is to standardize, familiarize, and

document the process of slipping and cutting the drill line, in order to enhance
safety and improve the efficiency of the operation. This operation is designed to
ensure the constant integrity of the drilling line by regular and systematic removal
and replacement of line which has been in service for its recommended safe
working period. It is subject to change or amendment at the discretion of the Rig
Superintendent after due consideration.

1.2 Where requirements and equipment are specified, some may change in time,
and the equipment list should be reviewed to accommodate such changes.
Where omissions are evident there should be no hesitation on the part of anyone
involved in the task of slipping and cutting, to suggest the addition, revision or
deletion of an item in this work instruction.

2.0 Scope

These work instructions are rig specific and apply to Slip and Cut operations on board the
WOR.

3.0 Responsibilities

The Rig Superintendent, Tool pusher and Driller are responsible for ensuring that these
work instructions are followed and revised and updated as conditions dictate. (Tool
Pusher or Rig Superintendent to be on rig floor prior to starting of Slip and cut operations,
and to remain on drill floor until completion of task).

6.0 Preparation

6.1 Prior to any operation and movement of equipment, a JSA shall be carried out
with personnel affected and involved before the operation takes place. Warning
signs and barriers should be erected as required.

6.2 Work permit to be generated and check list completed prior to any man riding
operations commencing.

6.3 All tools used in the operation are to be checked and “fit for use”. Any tools taken
aloft must be secured.

6.4 The timing of slip and cut operations shall be determined by:
 Ton mile accumulation, (slip and cut program).
 Visual inspection of drill line
 Opportunity within current program
 Make a short cut after a long cut. Stagger the cut lengths. It’s good
oilfield practice.

6.5 CME’s preferred method is to Slip and Cut with the Drill String at the casing shoe
and a safety valve installed with the well circulated and monitored on the trip
tank.

6.6 All personnel hoisting activities involved in the slip and cut operation will require a
personnel hoisting permit. All controls indicated on the permit will be observed as
per the Personnel Hoisting Policy (CME-MSP-OI-5-1-6).

6.7 The drill floor area shall be clear of personnel while the derrick-man hangs off the
Blocks, Set warning tape around the work area safety. The Traveling Block
assembly shall not be moved while the derrick-man is suspended in the derrick.

6.8 Inform the Mechanic on duty well in advance to prepare for the checking of brake
calipers, pins, springs and hoses. This is best done whilst the covers are off the
draw-works.

Note: In the event of open hole, slipping and cutting drill line will take place when
the drill string is at the casing shoe. A safety valve shall be installed on the drill
string during the slip and cut operation.

7.1 The Drill String will be set in the Slips and a Stab in Safety Valve installed (T.I.W)
in the open position.

7.2 The Well will be lined up and circulated on the Trip Tank and monitored both on
the trip tank and through open Safety Valve (T.I.W), during the Slip and Cut
process.

7.3 The traveling block assembly shall be lowered to the “Hang Off” position and
retracted and then the parking brake applied. (The blocks are better retracted
due to the position of the hang off line.)

7.4 The designated person will un-tie the “Hang Off” line from the derrick.

7.5 The stabbing basket operator or man rider will proceed to the TDS blocks “hang
off’ position.

7.6 The stabbing basket operator or man rider will attach the “Hang Off” line to the
TDS Blocks.

7.7 Once the Stabbing/Maintenance Basket operator or man rider is clear, the
command to the Driller to lower the TDS/Blocks and confirm the TDS/Block
weight transferred to the “Hang Off” line will be given.

7.8 Once the Blocks/TDS are hung off and the Stabbing basket is clear, the Driller
will begin to lower the Blocks/TDS until the weight is fully transferred to the hang
off line.

7.9 The Drawworks drum front cover can be removed.

7.10 The Driller will mark the Drawworks Grooved Drum and count the required
number of wraps to be cut and mark the line.

7.13 The driller reverse drawwork slowly, Position personnel involved, in appropriate
areas to assist in the removal of Drill Line. The Driller will commence removal of
Drill line from the drum to the pre-determined cutting point (chalk mark).

7.14 Once cutting point has been taped, the appointed line cutter will don goggles and
face shield and cut the Drill Line using the Hydra-Shear or Oxygen acetylene
cutting torch.

7.15 Driller then continues to un-spool the remaining line from the Draw-works.

7.16 The drilling line that has been cut off must be coiled up on the drill-floor with the
ends secured and a suitable sling passed through the center and choked, in
preparation for the deck crew to lift clear.

by the rope twisting.

7.19 Insert the drilling line into the rope slot and install the rope clamp, the drilling line
is pulled out completely, pay attention to hand position; ensure the proper length
of rope out of clamp, one by one symmetrical tightening bolts; the Driller or
Toolpusher is responsible for the check tightening bolt and rope clamp clearance.

7.20 The driller run drawwork, the remaining rope wrapped into the drum, to ensure
that the drilling line arranged in the rope groove, the drilling line wrapped around
big tension into the process, and keep the rope and rope groove Close.

7.21 Remove the dead line anchor retainer plate bolt so that the spare line is
available.

7.22 Slip drilling line to proper circles, the driller operate drawwork slowly, attention
weight indicator readings, avoid traveling block lifting; Ensure the traveling block
to the lowest position (the top drive bell), drilling line should be at least 12 laps on
the drum; when the drawwork rotation, attention to personnel positioning and
hand position; when the first 12 laps twine process, drilling line will be try to hit on
the drum groove.

7.23 Install drawwork cover, retaining bolt of dead line anchor retainer plate,
Cooperation careful when transfering and installation of cover; even tighten the
clamp bolt diagonal one by one, the driller or toolpusher check bolt.

7.24 Lifting the traveling block to the normal hanging weight, observe drilling line head
no loose in the dead line anchor and drawwork drum.

7.25 Personnel was transferred the traveling block by work harness /work baskets, the
crew took off suspension rope and tied suspension rope to both sides of the
derrick. Adjust the traction rope in the process of rising, control work basket
direction, avoid the basket swinging collision top drive and cable; crew in the
work basket take care of hand position to prevent hand squeezing; The driller
pick up the traveling block to relax the suspension rope, and lockout.

7.26 Lower the travelling block to the lowest position, confirm the number of drilling line
on the drum, notify the logging personnel confirmed the number of lops, the
calibration of "zero". Lower the travelling block to the lowest position ,there are
no less than 12 cycles on the drum.
