The lighthouse that first appeared in North America is at St. Augustine, pictured on theBoazio
map and printed in London in 1791. Menendez built the lighthouse tower after landing in 1586.
Boazio interviewed the Drake crew upon their return from piracy at St. Augustine.
The next lighthouse built in America is Boston Light on Little Brewster Island (1716). His first
guard was George Worthylake who drowned with his wife and daughter, when he returned to
the island in 1718. The original tower had been destroyed by the British at the time of the
evacuation of Boston which was eventually rebuilt in 1784.
